The main problem faced by persons with disabilities and those belonging to the marginalized sections of society stem from disabling environment and socio-cultural and economic barriers. Discrimination against any person on the grounds of his/her disability or physical limitations and minority status is a gross violation of universally accepted principles of equality and human rights and even constitutional obligations.
The Indian Society is singular in terms of the multifarious hues it has absorbed in its fabric. Living within its clinch are numerous groups that are segregated on the basis of language, ethnicity, class, caste, religion, etc. This inequitable situation warrants a redemption which is possible through Equal Opportunity measures and policies.
To address these and other urgent issues concerning SCs, STs, women OBC (non-creamy layer), minorities and PwD, the Equal Opportunity Cell was established in the college to support students from above mentioned categories to provide guidance to disadvantaged group in the campus.
The objectives of the Cell are:
1.To ensure equity and equal opportunity to the community at large in the college and bring about social inclusion.
2.To create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of healthy interpersonal relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds.
3.To make efforts to sensitize the academic community regarding the problems associated with social exclusion as well as aspirations of the marginalized communities.
4.To look into the grievances of the weaker sections of the society and suggest amicable solution to their problems.
5.To disseminate information related to schemes and programmes for the welfare of the socially weaker section.
