GREEN CAMPUS
ENERGY MANAGEMENT
The college campus is fully harnessing renewable energy in terms of solar electricity and observed considerable cost reduction in electricity bills. With support from CREST, College has installed grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic power plant of capacity 190 kWp on the various college buildings:

1. 90kWp rooftop SPV plant on the main college building

2. 2x25kWp rooftop SPV plant on both old and new B.Sc. hostel building

3. 30kWp rooftop SPV plant on M.Sc. hostel building

4. 2x10kWp rooftop SPV plant on multimedia research block building

5. There are energy efficient LED lights in main college building, hostel buildings, auditorium, Chaitanya Laboratory School, multimedia research block and Principal’s residence.

6. The college also has a facility of electric bike for commuters to DHE Office and other stakeholders.

7. An ‘Energy Saving Brigade’ comprising of students from different classes is constituted in the college in every session, that works towards spreading awareness about energy efficiency by the use of posters, NukkadNatak, signage etc. and also ensures that the lights, fans, computers and other systems on campus are turned off, unplugged or kept in power saving mode when they are not in use.
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
1. Various eco-friendly approaches were used throughout the year. Special efforts were put in by the college for reusing and recycling wastes.

2. 8 Pits were dug near U.G and P.G hostels for collecting garden waste.

3. The college has fully automatic Compost Machine (25-50 kg) for composting the kitchen & garden waste and the generated compost is later used in college campus lawns, gardens and plants as soil amendments and source of plant nutrients.

4. Old/ used newspapers were collected and reused to make environment friendly paper bags and beautiful handmade sheets.

5. The College has kept 3 different colored dustbins (i.e. Blue, Green and black) for collecting waste from all around the college campus & hostels.
WATER MANEGEMENT-
1. Government Home Science College is continuously working on creating ecological and sustainable water management inside the college premises from time to time.

2. Key sustainable features include Quantified water usage, water availability, rainwater harvesting, recycling of water from sewage treatment plant (STP), functional drainage systems.

3. Approximately, Rs 42,44,000/- has been spent for providing & laying of SWD line & road gullies for disposal of rain water. The water is saved as the used water is diverted from drinking water points, wash basins; canteen sinks to water the plants in the campus.

4. Tertiary Water is used for watering the trees & lawns. Approximately, Rs 10,53,000/- has been spend for laying of tertiary treated water lying .
