Specialised Facilities

The Department of Foods and Nutrition runs a cafeteria on the campus, as part of the curriculum, under Institutional Food Service Management. Practical exposure to large scale quantity cooking provides a platform to hone skill development and capacity building. Entrepreneurship has not just been infused as a part of the curriculum, but has extended beyond the dimensions offered due to the intensive practical exposure offered to the students through guidance, mentoring and inspiration to establish their own micro enterprises. The cafeteria helps in self directed independent learning, critical thinking, improvisation of skill set as well as innovative problem solving in real life situations. Fully equipped state of the art Institutional Food Service Laboratory is utilized for this purpose.

Chaitanya – A Laboratory Nursery School

 

 The Department of Human Development and Family Relations has an attached laboratory nursery school – “Chaitanya”, which comprises of 50 students aged between 3-5 years studying in Pre-Nursery and Nursery classes.  Not only does this provide an excellent platform for the students to get firsthand experience about observing this age group but it is based on carefully planned play-based curriculum which offers a rich variety of art, sensory, literacy, math, science, music activities, block building, dramatic play and outdoor play opportunities to children. Stimulating activities for holistic development of young children are conducted & supervised by teachers and students of Human Development department.Chaitanya has two well-equipped classrooms along with ICT facility, an office for the teachers, two Indoor gyms, a story corner, a science corner, doll and block corner and a spacious outdoor play area with a sand pit along with swings and slides. The school has child friendly washrooms that are especially customized according to their age.

Committee Room

College has dedicated one room (Room No. 10) on ground floor for “e- pathshala” . Educational resources can be accessed by the students and faculty. e- pathshala is equipped with computers, printers, LED screen, one station unit and live camera.

Sanitary pad vending and sanitary disposable machines were purchased keeping in mind sanitary hygiene of girl students. It creates private space and independence to access or dispose off  the napkins. The motive behind this purchase was to promote menstrual hygiene amongst girls. These machines were placed in hostel and college washrooms.

Skill development lab was made with the purchase of sewing machines by RUSA infrastructure grant. This helped in empowering the poor urban women as well as students of the college with skills in Fashion Designing. The lab was inaugurated by Shri.B. L. Sharma (IAS), Honourable education secretary in 2018.

Swavlamban Corner is one of the unique feature of the Home Science College.In sync with Atam Nirbhar Bharat initiative, this corner has been developed in the reception area of the college  with the help of  Small Industrial Development bank of India  (SIDBI) grant of Rs.1.50 lacs.The corner provides an excellent  opportunity to the students/budding entrepreneurs and alumni of the college to exhibit and sell their handmade exquisite innovative handmade products and services.Budding entrepreneurs from various departments regularly display the items learned during their course curriculum and get customized orders. They learn the nitty gritty of selling their products and earn while they learn.This corner serves a platform to promote innovation, entrpreneurship and technology development for futuristic India.

Heritage resource centre in the Deptt. of Clothing and Textiles provides an insight about the traditional legacy of Indian Art and Craft. It is a great source of information and display of Exquisite handicrafts ranging from Kashmiri Carpets Of extreme North to Dazzling Kanjivaram from the tip of Southern India. The resource centre exhibit hand crafted embroideries and exclusive woven, resist dyed, hand block printed and hand painted textiles of different states. It is also a storehouse for Traditional Heritage of Punjab which aims to acquaint students with intangible cultural heritage items like embroideries such as Phulkari, Bagh & Dasuti, crafts such as Paranda, Rassa, Ennu, Tokri, Khiddo, Guddian Patole, and Chikku.
