GHSC-10 Organises Workshop on Awareness and Prevention of Sexual Abuse

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Bachpan Save the Innocence NGO, organised a workshop on “Awareness and Prevention of Sexual Abuse” on September 16, 2025, at Chaitanya Laboratory Nursery School, Department of Human Development.
The initiative was aimed at sensitising and empowering young children of Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Balvatika classes with age-appropriate knowledge on personal safety and preventive measures against sexual abuse. The session focused on teaching children about setting boundaries, recognising “safe” and “unsafe” touch and understanding the importance of speaking up.
The resource person used interactive activities, storytelling and role-play to make the session engaging and effective. The children were encouraged to build confidence in identifying uncomfortable situations and to share their concerns freely with trusted adults. Around 65 tiny tots, along with their teachers, actively participated in the workshop.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the collaborative efforts of the Department of Human Development and the NSS Wing of the college. She emphasised that “awareness is the foundation of prevention” and reiterated the institution’s commitment to organising more such initiatives. Prof. Katyal highlighted that the college is devoted to equipping its stakeholders with the knowledge and resources necessary to combat abuse and foster a safe, inclusive and socially responsible environment.
