Date: 22 April, 2024
ovt. Home Science college celebrated Earth Day on 22 April 2024, focusing on the theme ‘Planet vs Plastic’. The first Earth Day was held in 1970, and it is now observed by millions of people in over 190 countries around the world. The main goal of recognizing the Earth Day is to highlight the need to preserve and protect our planet, which is the home to different life forms. Earth Day reminds the world about the importance of environment conservation and sustainability, encouraging us to come together and take action for a healthier planet and brighter future. The day raises awareness and inspires change, fostering a deep connection with nature. It also emphasizes the role of sustainable practices and renewable energy sources in addressing climate change and promoting a circular economy. The Environment Society ‘Harita’ organized a Pledge taking ceremony on the campus for the faculty, staff members and students, to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the environment, promoting sustainability and ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for all life on Earth. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, motivated everyone to adopt sustainable lifestyle practices and make conscious efforts to decrease the use of single use plastics in daily life.
My Everyday Earth Day Pledge:
As a visitor on earth,
I pledge to dutifully reduce my impact on the environment,
at home, at work and at play every day.
I will fulfill my pledge by conserving my use of water,
electricity, fossil fuels and unrecyclable products every day.
Every day here on earth, I will respect nature
by reducing what I take without giving back.
Every day, I will live my life on earth in a manner
that contributes to sustaining nature or future visitors.
