Field Visit by Students to Jhumroo Restaurant 21.03.24

MSc. Foods and Nutrition 2nd year students, Department of Foods and Nutrition of Home Science College, embarked on a field visit to Jhumroo Restaurant in Mohali, Punjab, as part of their Entrepreneurial Ventures in Food Industry practical. The restaurant provided an immersive learning experience for the students.The highlight of the visit was an address by celebrity chef and owner, Mr. Vikas Chawla, who shared insights into the restaurant's concept and operations. Mr. Chawla elaborated on the three pillars of his culinary philosophy: style of cooking, emphasis on millet-based food, and the infusion of emotions into every dish, believing that food should evoke maternal sentiments.


To enrich the students' understanding, they were treated to a sampling session featuring dishes like ragi ladoo, besan barfi, and jowar brownie. This hands-on experience not only allowed them to savor the flavors but also provided invaluable insights into the nuances of culinary entrepreneurship. The field visit not only complemented the students' academic curriculum but also fostered experiential learning, encouraging them to explore the diverse facets of the food industry. It was a rewarding opportunity for the students to bridge theory with practice and gain practical insights into the dynamic world of food entrepreneurship.
