GHSC-10 Organised Workshops on Awareness and Prevention of Sexual Abuse for Children & Staff of Government Schools, Chandigarh

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Bachpan – Save the Innocence NGO, conducted a workshop on "Awareness and Prevention of Sexual Abuse" on January 30, 2025, at the college premises. Students from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-10, Chandigarh, participated with great enthusiasm. A similar workshop was also organized at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-23, Chandigarh, on January 31, 2025.The workshops aimed to educate and empower students and staff of government schools with essential knowledge on identifying, addressing, and preventing sexual abuse in both educational and social settings. Key topics covered included:
Creating a safe and supportive environment for children
Recognizing signs of sexual abuse
Understanding the importance of consent and boundaries
Awareness of prevention strategies and available support systems
The sessions were highly interactive, featuring real-life case studies, role-plays, and an open Q&A segment to encourage active participation and discussion.
Commending the initiative, Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of Government Home Science College, applauded the efforts of the Department of Human Development for organizing these impactful workshops in collaboration with Bachpan NGO. She emphasized that awareness is the first step toward prevention and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to equipping its stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to combat abuse. She further reiterated the institution’s dedication to conducting more such initiatives to foster awareness and social responsibility within the community.
