GHSC-10 Students Visited Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (CIHM-42), Chandigarh

The students of the Food and Nutrition Department visited the Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (CIHM), Sector-42, Chandigarh on February 18, 2025. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in the fields of culinary arts, nutrition and food service management.The visit was commenced with an engaging and hands-on baking session on apple strudel and Yorkshire curd tart. The chef/instructor was Mr. Achal Bisht who shared his expertise and insights into the fundamental principles of bakery operations and the underlying science that governs the baking process. This was followed by a guided tour of the different sections of the institution namely: Training Kitchens, Bakery and Confectionery Section, Food and Beverage Service Department, Housekeeping and Hygiene Standards and Research and Development Kitchen.The students were appraised about the operational aspects of a professional kitchen, food production, safety, and hygiene standards in the hospitality industry, explore career opportunities in hotel management and catering and to observe the role of nutrition in menu planning and food preparation. Students were given an overview of how the hospitality industry is evolving and the role of nutrition in modern food service establishments.Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college, emphasized on the importance of the evolving hospitality industry and role of nutrition in modern food service establishment. She encouraged the students to apply the knowledge and information gained through this visit towards innovative solutions in their field.
