Government Home Science College Organized Industrial Visit

As a part of three-day workshop on skill development and entrepreneurial opportunities, a group of more than 26 students of B.Sc. (H.Sc) ATD and IDRM- 6th Semester along with faculty members, Dr. Rupinder Ghuman and Dr. Shabana Gandhi visited two entrepreneurial units of Egram Creations and Acme Marketing Pvt. Limited, Sector 82, Mohali. Egram Creations is the textile entrepreneurial unit which was started under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The unit imparted knowledge of production, quality control, standardisation and packaging process of various branded apparel manufacturing companies. The students were given live demos of various processes of production. Furthermore, Acme Marketing Private Limited gave a valuable insight of green building techniques to the students. The CEO of the company, Mr. Neeraj Sharma discussed regarding the manufacturing of ‘Smart Wood’ which is used in place of brick walls. He emphasized that ‘Smart Wood’ is not only environment friendly but it is also a resource efficient way of building home. He further explained how it saves the use of cement, bricks and sand and promotes hybrid construction with the use of wooden boards. The partitions and walls made up of Smart board are not only flexible but also space efficient. Students were demonstrated with various equipments, material and methods. The main objective of the visit was to provide practical exposure to the students about entrepreneurial skills required to undertake an enterprise. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the efforts of the teachers to give practical exposure to the students and emphasized that such visits facilitates learning process and makes the students aware regarding the recent trends and advancements in the market with regard to building materials and production.
