Home Science Kicks Off Academic Year with Dynamic Orientation Session

Home Science College welcomed its new academic batch of 2024-25 with an engaging and vibrant orientation programme on August 13, 2024. The event was meticulously designed to introduce the newcomers to college's rich heritage, academic culture, entrepreneurial oppourtunities and startup ventures and various opportunities for personal and professional growth. The event kick started with an inspiring inaugural address by the Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, who welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement. Redefining the already established meanings of the initial four letters of alphabets i.e. (A for Attitude, B for Be Self Driven and Self Motivated C for Challenges and changes and D forDedication and discipline), Prof. Katyal underlined these qualities as essential pre-requisite to attain desired goals in one’s lives. Furthermore, she also apprised the newcomers about the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 starting from this academic session and strongly advocated that this progressive initiative aligns with the college's commitment to provide a holistic, flexible and multidisciplinary education.
Following the welcome address, Prof. Reetinder Brar provided an overview of the rules and regulations to be followed by the students in the campus. While highlighting the key parameters such as discipline, punctuality, regularity, barring of cell phones in classrooms, she informed the students about the repercussions of involving oneself in to any form of ragging, bullying, violence and abuse. Moreover, students were introduced to various departments, faculty members, and student support services such as Diet Counselling, Personal Counselling and placement and entrepreneurial opportunities. Furthermore, the heads of departments provided an overview of the academic curriculum, extracurricular opportunities, and research prospects available at the institution. Additionally, representatives from the student union and various clubs shared insights into the vibrant campus life and encouraged new students to actively participate in co-curricular activities. The event concluded with a campus tour, where students were introduced to the state-of-the-art resources and infrastructure available to them. The tour included visits to the library, state of art laboratories, sports facilities, and student activity centres, providing a comprehensive overview of the college's infrastructure.
