Chemistry in Action: Exploring the Science Behind Home Science at GHSC-10

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, organized an event on “Showcasing Chemistry in Home Science” on October 16, 2025. The event aimed to highlight the vital role of chemistry in everyday life especially within the domain of Home Science.
Around 100 students demonstrated innovative approach in connecting chemical science with real-life applications. Various competitions like Flavour & Formula and Poster Making were conducted to encourage creativity and scientific thinking among students. Participants in the Flavour & Formula competition prepared innovative dishes while explaining the chemistry behind their recipes whereas the Poster Making competition focused on the theme “Innovation in Food Chemistry.” The event successfully blended learning with creativity, showcasing how chemistry adds meaning and flavour to everyday life.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the Department of Basic Sciences for organising the event. Prof. Katyal further emphasised that understanding chemistry behind everyday processes help students to appreciate science as a tool for improving quality of life and promoting sustainable living.
