GHSC-10 Conducts Awareness Session on Impact of Drugs on Youth and Strategies for Suicide Prevention

Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh organised an awareness session on “Impact of Drugs on Youth and Strategies for Suicide Prevention” on November 7, 2025. The resource person for the session was ASI Babita from Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Sector-11, Chandigarh.

The session aimed to sensitize students to the alarming rise in substance abuse and mental health issues among young people, while also equipping them with practical coping strategies and preventive measures.
During the session, ASI Babita highlighted the psychological, social and physiological consequences of drug abuse emphasising how addiction not only harms an individual’s health but also disrupts family and community well-being. She also shed light on the early warning signs of suicidal tendencies and the importance of timely intervention, emotional support and open communication.

Students were encouraged to seek help without stigma and to act as peer supporters within their social circles. The interactive session allowed participants to share their thoughts and gain awareness about available counseling and rehabilitation services. More than 50 students actively participated in the event.

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the initiative of the VADA Club, Department of Human Development and the NSS Wing of the college for organizing the session. She emphasized the importance of creating awareness on such sensitive yet crucial issues and urged students to adopt healthy lifestyles while spreading the message of positivity and resilience. The session concluded with students taking a pledge to stay drug-free and to extend compassion and support to peers in distress.
