GHSC-10 Organises Awareness Session on Intellectual Property Rights

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organised an Awareness Session on “Intellectual Property Rights” on August 29, 2025. The resource person for the session was Dr. Harpreet, Associate Professor, Department of Clothing and Textiles, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. The session aimed at sensitising students and faculty about the significance, relevance and practical applications of IPR in academics, research and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Harpreet elaborated on the different dimensions of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks and design rights, while emphasising their role in fostering innovation, protecting creativity and safeguarding original work. The highly interactive session enabled students to gain valuable insights into how IPR can contribute to their professional growth and create opportunities in research and industry. More than 70 Post Graduate students actively participated in the programme.
Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college, appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Clothing and Textiles and highlighted that awareness of Intellectual Property Rights is an essential step towards empowering young researchers and budding entrepreneurs. She further encouraged students to participate wholeheartedly in such academic activities and assured them of the institution’s continued support in nurturing creativity, innovation and excellence.
