Date: 31 October, 2025
The students of Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, upheld the institution’s commitment to community welfare through a visit to Kartar Asra Old Age Home, organized by the Department of Resource Management and Extension.
The visit provided students with an enriching opportunity to interact with the elderly residents in a warm and compassionate environment. Students engaged the residents in cultural performances including songs and dance, which the inmates enthusiastically joined. Residents also reciprocated by reciting poems, creating an atmosphere of mutual joy and emotional connection. Students spent time conversing with the elders, listening to their life experiences, and sharing meaningful moments of dialogue and reflection. In addition to interactions, necessary utility items were donated and refreshments were distributed as part of the community service initiative. The activity aimed at fostering empathy, respect, and social responsibility among students, particularly enhancing their understanding of the needs and emotional well-being of the geriatric population.
Principal of the College, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the efforts noting that such outreach activities bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application of compassion. She emphasized that these experiences encourage students to grow as socially responsible and active citizens who contribute positively to the community.
