Weaving Heritage into Modern Education: Handloom Day Celebrated at GHSC-10

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, celebrated National Handloom Day with great enthusiasm and purpose. The event aimed to raise awareness about India’s rich handloom heritage and promote the use of indigenous textiles among the youth.
As part of the celebration, an awareness talk was organized, focusing on the significance of the handloom sector in empowering rural artisans and preserving cultural heritage. The session highlighted sustainable fashion practices and the economic and ecological importance of handwoven textiles in contemporary times.
To further engage the students, a quiz competition based on the handloom industry and traditional Indian textiles was also conducted.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 100 students of B.Sc. Home Science,B.Sc. Fashion Designing, and M.Sc. Clothing & Textiles who actively interacted and showcased their knowledge and interest in the subject.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Clothing and Textiles in sensitizing students toward the cultural and economic value of handloom. She further emphasized the need to support local weavers and artisans and encouraged students to incorporate handloom in their academic projects and future design ventures.
