CAPACITY BUILDING AND TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR STREET VENDORS HELD AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE

In an endeavor to generate awareness regarding food hygiene and sanitation, Government Home Science Collegein collaboration with Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER and Vendor’s Cell, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a Capacity Building and Training Workshop on Convergence of initiative of women, child and social development agencies of Chandigarh for mainstreaming street vendors’ welfare through integrated training enterprise of its Municipal Corporation with special focus on street food hygiene. More than 50 students, street vendors, mess and canteen workers attended the workshop.
Dr Poonam and Dr Geeta Mehra outlined the importance of food safety for the health of consumers. Mr Harkit Singh from Panjab National Bank, Chandigarh spoke about financial literacy and by laws . A nukkad natak was also enacted by the postgraduate students of the college to highlight this need of the hour amongst the audience.
Principal of the college, Prof. SudhaKatyal, highly appreciated the students for their active participation to generate awareness regarding proper personal hygiene in our lives. She further motivated the students to follow proper guidelines to maintain hygiene and sanitation to control the spread of disease causing microbes.
