GHSC-10 Celebrated 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm, patriotism and pride at Government Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh on August 15, 2026. The programme showcased the spirit of national unity and the rich cultural heritage of India through a series of patriotic and cultural performances.The event commenced with the singing of “Vande Mataram” by the students and staff, creating an atmosphere of patriotism and national pride. Thereafter, Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal ceremonially hoisted the National Flag. The entire gathering stood in respect and joined in singing the National Anthem, reaffirming the collective spirit of patriotism and national unity.

The cultural programme that followed was a vibrant celebration of India's diversity and freedom. The little munchkins of Chaitanya Laboratories Nursery School presented a beautiful performance on Vande Mataram, which was warmly appreciated by everyone. This was followed by a melodious patriotic song performed by the college students, with the theme of “Har Ghar Tiranga”, spreading the message of national pride and encouraging everyone to honour the Tricolour.The students then presented a powerful Nukkad Natak on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat – Shayog Sabka”, highlighting the importance of creating a drug-free society and encouraging collective responsibility towards building a healthier nation. The performance conveyed a meaningful social message and received appreciation from the audience.

The Nukkad Natak was followed by an energetic and graceful dance performance by the students. Subsequently, the first-year students presented the diverse cultural traditions of India by representing different states, including Gujarat, West Bengal, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Kerala. Their colourful presentations beautifully reflected the unity in diversity that forms the essence of India.The programme concluded with an inspiring address by the Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal. She appreciated the students for their enthusiastic participation, dedication and outstanding performances. She highlighted the significance of the 80th Independence Day and reminded the students of the sacrifices and struggles that led to India's freedom. She also spoke about the importance of Vande Mataram and its enduring significance as a symbol of patriotism and devotion to the nation.Furthermore, Prof. Katyal emphasised the significant role of young people in contributing to India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047, highlighting their potential to drive innovation, progress and nation-building.
