GHSC-10 Observed National AIDS Control Day

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh observed National AIDS Control Day on December 01, 2024. Red Ribbon Club of the college organised a screening of a movie to highlight the social, emotional, and medical challenges faced by individuals living with HIV/AIDS. The initiative aimed to foster understanding, encourage preventive measures and promote compassion towards those affected. ‘Phir Milenge’ a film that sensitively portrayed the experiences of people living with HIV/AIDS was screened for resident students. The narrative emphasised the importance of awareness and prevention, role of society in supporting affected individuals and breaking myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS. Resident students along with wardens of the hostel attended the event with great enthusiasm. The movie served as a catalyst for meaningful discussions and reflections on the subject. The event successfully informed participants about the realities of HIV/AIDS, its prevention, and the importance of early testing. Furthermore, the movie and discussions fostered a deeper understanding and encouraged the participants to combat stigma in their communities. They further pledged to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and support affected individuals in their networks.Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the club to spread awareness and emphasised that a proactive approach is required to sensitise everyone towards HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of empathy, education and action in addressing this critical public health issue.
