Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, organised a comprehensive lecture-cum-discussion focusing on the causes and prevention of HIV/AIDS on March 08, 2025. The session was led by Dr. Basant Kumar, an esteemed Associate Professor and a renowned doctor at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Dr. Kumar emphasized the significance of early detection in managing HIV/AIDS effectively. He discussed various diagnostic methods and the importance of regular screenings, especially for high-risk groups. Furthermore, his lecture highlighted preventive measures, including safe practices, public awareness campaigns, and the role of education in reducing transmission rates. In his concluding remarks, Dr. Kumar provided an overview of the latest advancements in HIV treatment, focusing on antiretroviral therapies and their impact on improving the quality of life for those affected.Approximately 100 NSS Volunteers attended the session and actively engaged in discussions on HIV/AIDS and related sexual health topics. This interactive format allowed volunteers to address their concerns, clarify doubts, and gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter.Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal lauded the efforts of Red Ribbon Club & NSS Wing of the college for organizing the event. She stressed the importance of addressing sensitive health issues and commended the initiative for fostering awareness and education among students. She further stressed that the session exemplifies the institution’s dedication to promoting health education and addressing pressing public health concerns.
