GHSC-10 Organised Awareness Campaign to Eliminate Beggary

NSS volunteers of Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organised Beggar-free Campaign, a nationwide effort to eliminate beggary from October 21-26, 2024. NSS volunteers sensitised general masses about social implications of beggary and advised general public to discourage giving alms to children, women and others who are indulged in beggary. Volunteers also shared child helpline number with general masses. Furthermore, volunteers also encouraged citizens to contribute by donating winter essentials such as socks, gloves, shoes, mufflers, scarves and school supplies at the designated “Neki ki Deewar” locations at Nari Niketan in Sector 26, Old Age Home in Sector 15 and 43, and Snehalaya in Sector 39, Chandigarh.
Principal of the college, Prof.Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of NSS Volunteers in eradicating this menace and further urged everyone not to give alms to beggars and not to buy things from children on roads, traffic signals and roundabouts so as to curb the menace of begging, child trafficking and child labour. In her concluding remarks, Prof. Katyal highlighted the significance of donations as this would bring happiness in the lives of needy women, children and senior citizens.
