GHSC-10 Organised Awareness Session on Importance of Fortified Food for maintaining Good Health

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Department of Hematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Technical Support Unit for Rice Fortification, Haryana and the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP), successfully organized an 'Awareness Session on Importance of Fortified Food for maintaining Good Health' on April 09, 2025. The session was aimed to educate the participants about the role of food fortification in addressing micronutrient deficiencies,promoting public health and significance of integrating fortified rice into daily diets to improve nutritional outcomes. Eminent speaker for the day, Dr Gurjinder Kaur Brar, Project Coordinator, Department of Hematology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, provided valuable insights through evidence-backed information on fortified rice. She also emphasized on the need forcollaborative efforts in ensuring nutritional security at the grassroots level. This insightful session witnessed active participation and engaging discussions by more than 150 participants including faculty members, post graduate and undergraduate students of the college.Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appraised the efforts the department of Foods & Nutrition for organising an nsightful session. She further highlighted the importance of this awareness initiative on fortification of food in empowering communities with the scientific knowledge to make healthier food choices.
