GHSC-10 Organises Tree Plantation Drive and Water Conservation Campaign

Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organised a tree plantation drive combined with a water conservation awareness campaign in surrounding areas of the college on from July 5-8, 2024. The campaign aimed to promote environmental sustainability and encourage residents to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The event began with the planting of over 50 saplings in public spaces. 63 NSS Volunteers actively took part in the plantation activities.

Alongside the plantation drive, volunteers conducted a water conservation awareness campaign as well as rally wherein they sensitised general masses about various techniques to conserve and manage water efficiently. Volunteers also highlighted key issues such as the overuse of water, the depletion of groundwater levels, and the importance of rainwater harvesting. Informative posters, banners, and pamphlets with slogans like “Plant Trees, Save Water” and “Conserve Water, Secure the Future” were distributed to educate the community about sustainable practices. The campaign left a lasting impact on the community, with many expressing their commitment to continuing such initiatives in the future.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of NSS Wing. She further emphasized the connection between tree plantation and water conservation and stressed upon the fact that , ‘’Planting trees not only improves air quality but also helps maintain groundwater levels and prevents soil erosion. These actions are critical for tackling the current water crisis.”
Furthermore, Prof. Katyal insisted that, to foster a greener and more sustainable future, it is imperative to make conscious efforts towards environmental sustainability for coming generations.
