Legal Awareness Cell organized a talk on “Mediation”

LEGAL AWARENESS CELL of the Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organized a talk on “Mediation” as the alternate dispute redressal mechanism of the legal system as a friendly option for the masses. The resource person was Dr. Harman Shergill Sullar of the UILS, Panjab University who has authored articles and book in this area. The students of Human Development and PGD in Child Guidance and Family Counselling keenly understood the scope of mediation in matrimonial cases and other concerns where families, companions or any two grieving parties can agree to choose the mediation process. The speaker informed about how to initiate the process and the advantages it has over the typical process of legal s through courts. The session was interactive and the students actively discussed example cases and the scope mediation has to deal in each one’s context.
The Principal of the college Prof. Sudha Katyal further elaborated on the potentials of the students to work in mediation centers to help those who are facing marital conflicts. The In-charge of the Legal Awareness Cell, Dr. Ravneet Chawla discussed some cases in light of discussions and suggested further scope of connecting legal knowhow with human development and counseling aspect being taught in the college.
