College signed MoU with Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development
Each One Plant One” was the mottofor the day at Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh, where Van Mahotsava -2016 was celebrated with great fervor. The occasion was graced by His Excellency, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, the Governor of Haryana and Panjab and the Administrator, UT Chandigarh along with other dignitaries ShParimalRai, Advisor to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh M.P. Singh , Principal Secretary to Administrator, ShAnurag Aggarwal , Home secretary cum Secretary (Environment &Forests), U.T Chandigarh, Sh Santosh Kumar , Chief Conservator of Forests & Director, UT Chandigarh and MrPramod Sharma , Coordinator, Yuvsatta- NGO, amongst the principals from various prestigious institutions from the tricity along with the school students.
The events of the day began with the Tree plantation launching drive in the college where His Excellency, the Governor planted a sapling of “LaxmiTaru” followed by the plantation of about 110 saplings of ornamental tree species like Bottle Palms, Plumeria Alba, Gulmohar, Palashetc. by the faculty and the students of Harita, Eco Club of the college. The Governor emphasized on the fact that life and forests are inseparable entities and that he was delighted to see that youth being a driving force of the country’s future was an active part of the event.
His Excellency also inaugurated a 90 kWp rooftop solar power plant in the college installed by the Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion society- CREST, which is capable of producing electricity of around 360 units per day amounting to a cost of approximately Rs 54,000. He praised the college for its effort to make itself self-sufficient
This was followed by the felicitationof peace awards by Honorable Governor, Prof K. S. Solankito various principals who significantly contributed to the Green Mission. The principal of the college, DrSudhaKatyal called it a” Gaurav Day” and thanked the galaxy of dignitaries for their combined exemplary vision and for lending unending support and cooperation to the college to make the event a great success as well for connecting everyone with mother nature and contributing to the conservation of environment through the use of renewable energy. She also assured the audience that the college would always strive to make City beautiful, greener and cleaner than before and contribute its bit in bringing required social change.
