»Live Workshop on Mind management with Yoga at Home Science College 14.06.21

 Keeping par with its goal of holistic development of students , Govt. Home Science college organised a live session on  Mind management with Yoga by Dr. Richa Chopra with over 100 students participating. An illustrious alumni of the college ,she is the former founding head of the Dept of Contemplative and behavioural Sciences at Sri Sri University, Cuttack. She is senior Art of Living International faculty, and has travelled across 11 countries transforming lives through the happiness program and other higher level courses.


Dr Richa talked about mind being an ocean and that in this fast moving world to be creative and move forward one must take care of the mind. She narrated two stories on the importance of living in the present rather than lamenting about the past or worrying about the future. She highlighted the importance of Yoga and it being not just about asanas but a great tool in arresting the modulation of the mind along with the explanation of the 5 Modulations.

Principal, Prof Sudha Katyal, felt proud to see the alumni do so well and urged the students to practice and cultivate the philosophy of Yoga in their lives to train the most important thing one has,  their minds.

Series 4 # Live webinar by alumni on inspiration, innovation and entrepreneurship at Home Science College.
In line up with the ongoing series of live webinars, Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organized another session by Dr. Harpreet Kaur , HOD, PG Deptt. Of Fashion Designing, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar.
Dr. Harpreet spoke on Career Opportunities in Fashion and highlighted that students are like pure white light when they choose their careers whereas teachers act as facilitators thereby making them aware of the wide scope of Clothing and Textiles. She further emphasised that food, clothing and shelter are the basic requirements to live a suitable life. Thus, the scope of the field of Clothing and Textiles never falls down in terms of career options. She also mentioned huge number of different professions after completing diploma, certificate course or degree in this discipline which includes fashion buyer, merchandiser, fashion retailer, fashion photographer, blogger, production manager, technical expert, free-lancer, acamedians, virtual assistance, textile engineer, fashion counsellor, instructors, personal shopper, Public relation officer and so on. She further added that students can also associate with textile ministry to do certain types of community services as well.
More than 100 participants attended the session.
Principal of the college, Prof.Sudha Katyal apprised all the viewers about the importance of wider scope of Fashion Designing as a distinguished field.


Series 5# Live webinar series by alumni concluded with a session on the Scope of Interior Design and Management at Home Science College

To conclude with the series of webinars conducted by esteemed alumni, Government Home Science College, Chandigarh organized final webinar in the series on the scope of Interior Design amd Management. The webinar was conducted by Ms Rajni , pass out student of 2019-batch and a renowned entrepreneur in the field of Interior Decoration. Renowned with a name of Space Rhythm Interiors as her enterprise, she gave the whole credit of her success to the esteemed institution in achieving such big heights with respect to her career. She highlighted the scope of Interior Decoration & Resource Management and further stressed that the students must be fanatical, determined, skilful and goal-oriented.
More than 100 participants attended the session.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of faculty in organising the series of webinars and encouraged the students to become self-reliant so as to recapitulate the message of the webinar "Earn while you Learn' and give their contribution in nation building while becoming Atma Nirbhar.

 



»Home Science College organised one week workshop on online yoga session ‘Yoga Sadhana’ 12.06.21

Government Home Science College organised one week workshop on online yoga session ‘Yoga Sadhana’ from June 07-21,2021 for the students and faculty as a prelude to International Yoga Day. The session concluded with a motivational talk by Dr.Bela Dhillon (M.D., Pathology & Internal Medicine, U.S.A. and Whole Health   Medicine Practitioner since 2014) on June 12, 2021. The topic was ‘Dincharya-Vital for Health, Wisdom & Success’. She highlighted the significance of living life to its full potential by discovering our true inner self. Quoting examples from ancient scriptures and our very  own Ayurveda, she emphasised to follow a daily routine by explaining various steps and activities so as to reach our full potential regarding our holistic well being. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal encouraged everyone to make yoga a part of their daily routine and affirmed it by saying a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.

 



»Peer Learning Workshop on Inspiration, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Home Science College 12.06.21

Government Home Science College proved the aphorism of “Earn while you learn” yet again by organising a live peer learning workshop conducted by Ms. Nidhi Bimal, currently a student of M.Sc (Clothing & Textile). She is successfully running her start-up ‘The Knot Store’ and has done interiors with macramé of Hotel – The Reef, Sector -7, Chandigarh.

 

Nidhi talked about her journey of being an entrepreneur and how she explored her talent in knotting after learning this skill in B.Sc Fashion Designing 2nd year. She highlighted the importance of customised products rather than having already made products and urged the upcoming entrepreneurs to focus on social communication platforms and focus on making the customers happy with the quality.

 

Principal, Professor Sudha Katyal applauded Nidhi's efforts of innovative use of her skills and encouraged the other students to be inspired and follow suit while reiterating the message of the workshop "Earn while you Learn' and becoming Atma Nirbhar.

 



»Series # 02 of Live webinar by alumni on inspiration, innovation and entrepreneurship at Home Science college. 11.06.21

To promote Government initiatives of Self-Reliant India, Home Science College proceeded with the second series of webinar by well-known Alumni to inspire the upcoming entrepreneurs of the college. The second webinar in this series was conducted by Ms Namrata; pass out student of M.Sc. in Clothing and Textiles (2017) successfully running her own Baby Boutique “Babyrobe” with 62,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook. 

 

Namrata shared the story of her online enterprise; Babyrobe. She boasts of a sale of almost 2 lakhs a month in designing robes for celebrity babies. She discussed about the various platforms and also emphasized on main aspects like websites, payment mechanisms, exchange policies, necessary documents etc which are required to start-up different ventures. The webinar saw more than 100 viewers live. 

 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, encouraged all the participants to enhance their capabilities to successfully emerge as entrepreneurs.

»Live Webinar Series by Alumni on Inspiration, Innovation and Entrepreneurship kickstart at Home Sc. College 10.6.21

In sync with the Government's initiative to promote Atma Nirbharta, Home Science College started a webinar series by distinguished Alumni to motivate the budding entrepreneurs of the college. The college boasts of a large number of illustrious alumni who made their alma mater proud by  being successful entrepreneurs and making a mark for themselves. The first webinar in this series was conducted by  alumna Swati Talwar who  after completing her M.Sc.in Foods and Nutrition  in 2012 successfully launched  a chain of 3 diet clinics at different places in U. P. 

 

Swati shared her clients' experience and journeys and emphasized on the importance of incorporating the basic fundamentals taught during their course of study. Her session was quite interesting and inspiring for the budding entrepreneurs. 

 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged all the viewers to enhance their skills and capacity building to successfully emerge as entrepreneurs.

 



»Yoga Sadhana Week Commences at Home Science College 07.06.21

As a prelude to International Yoga Day, the faculty, non teaching staff and students of Government Home Science College are observing Yoga Sadhana Week from June 7- June 12. 

The celebrations were kick started with an invigorating online session sponsored by a YouTuber yoga expert Ms Kanica Nayyar. 

She elaborated on the health benefits of yoga and demonstrated various asanas including surya namaskar . Ms Kanika is a renowned yoga instructor and successfully runs her own venture " Yoga with Kanika".

The session saw a great response from all staff and students. Principal of the college Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the participants to be an active part of this yoga week celebrations to extract benefits and ensure complete physical and mental well being for themselves.

 

 

 



»WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATED AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 07.06.21

To mark the World Environment Day, Government Home Science College organised Inter-College Face Mask Painting and Plant a Sapling of medicinal plant Competitions. 

A number of   entries were received from across the city. Judgement was done by Shri Debender Dalai ,IFS, Chief Conservator forest and wildlife and Director Environment Chd Admn. SAKSHI GOYAL

from Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sec-42, Chandigarh bagged the first prize in the plant a sapling category whereas Devakshi Batta of Home Science College bagged the second prize and the third prize was awarded to Sheetal from PGGCG -42. 

In the face mask painting competition, Amrit Sharma won the first prize, Deepika was awarded the second prize and Garima Chopra the third - all from Home Science College. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal congratulated all the prize winners and urged everyone to pass on the message of the importance of keeping our environment green, clean and safe.

»Workshop on Psycho-social Support for COVID Pandemic Condition 05.06.21

Online Workshop on "Psycho Social Support for Covid Pandemic Situation" in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Deptt of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India was organised. Resource person was Mr. Samarth Sharma, a representative of Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Govt. of India. 90 NSS Volunteers participated in the workshop.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the enthusiasm of the students who whole heartedly participated in the workshop and reiterated the message of the workshop "Each one Reach one”.

»Online workshop organised on Psycho Social Support for Covid Pandemic Situation 31.05.21

 

 The college organised an online workshop on "Psycho Social Support for Covid Pandemic Situation" in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural education, Deptt of Higher Education , Ministry of Education , Govt. of India . As the coronavirus pandemic sweeps across the world, it is inducing a considerable degree of fear , worry and concern in the public at large and among certain groups in particular, such as older adults, care providers and people with underlying health conditions. With new  measures and restrictions introduced especially during quarantine and its effects on people's usual activities, routines or livelihoods ,one can see a rise in levels of loneliness, depression , drug use , self harm or suicidal tendencies. With the intentions of addressing some of these concerns arising due to COVID-19 ,the workshop was  conducted by the college. Resource person was Mr Samarth Sharma, a representative of Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural  Education , Govt. of India. A wonderful interactive session was held where over 90 students participated wholeheartedly and shared the information on available beds,Ventilators,ICU.Vaccine Awareness, Crowd Management at Covid Vaccine Centers, NGOs distributing food to COVID 19 Patients and COVID 19 Helpline numbers for giving emotional support to the covid affected patients .


Principal of the college , Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the enthusiasm of the students who wholeheartedly participated in the workshop and reiterated the message of the workshop "Each one Reach one" .

Tanu from B.Sc Home Science, Semester-II (Section- A, Roll No.- 34/20) and Laghima Sharma from B.Sc Home Science, Semester-II (Section- A, Roll No.- 51/20) for Slogan Writing and Anjali Kadian from B.Sc. »Home Science Students Brought Laurels to College on World Earth Day 16.04.21

Komal Kakkar from B.Sc Home Science, Semester-II (Section- A, Roll No.- 15/20) and Laghima Sharma from B.Sc Home Science, Semester-II ( Section- A, Roll No.- 51/20) brought  laurels to the college by bagging Second Prize  and Third Prize respectively in an Online Inter-college Earth Emoji Making Competition organised by Department of Environment Studies in collaboration with ‘Dharini’ ‘Environment Awareness Society’ , PGGC, Sector-46, Chandigarh. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated the students and emphasised that we all should take responsibility to protect our planet with utmost care and we must save the Mother Earth for future generations as well.

 



»SIDBI team visits Home Science College 16.04.21

SIDBI team visits Government Home Science college to evaluate the utilisation of first  installment of grant amounting to Rs. 120000. The team comprised of Shri Rahul Priyadarshi,  GM SIDBI and Ms. Suman Singh AGM SIDBI Chandigarh. To enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the budding entrepreneurs of the college and to provide marketing platform to the innovative products and services of the students and Alumni, SIDBI has sanctioned a grant of 1,50,000 to setup the information kiosk and display cum sale window in Home Science College.

The students and alumni of the college exhibitedtheir creative and innovative products in the Swawlamban window. Shri Priyadarshi GM during an interactive sessions with budding entrepreneurs of the college inspired them to enhance their marketing skills by displaying their creative products in this window and alsomotivated them to move further by exploring various funding opportunities and learning the nitty gritty of running a business enterprise.

Ms. Suman Singh, AGM, SIDBI urged the students to become self dependent and earn through selling and exploiting their skills..Placement incharge of the college, Dr. Shabana gave vote ofthanks tothe SIDBI team and said that this initiative willact as a driving force to push the students towards entrepreneurship and skill development.

Sensitisation & Awareness Campaign on getting vaccinated against Corona by NSS Volunteers from April 11-14, 2021. The Vaccination Campaign was directed by Regional Directorate of NSS, Chandigarh under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the College urged the volunteers to sensitise and spread awareness among the masses to get vaccinated and lend a helping hand to the efforts being put in by the Corona warriors and the government.

»Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh signs Memorandum of Understanding with Open Eyes Foundation (A Non-Government Organisation) 07.04.21

The M.O.U will assist in organizing socially useful events with NSS and NCC Volunteers of the college. It also focuses on  community participation activities, seminars and conferences on mutually agreed upon topics from time to time. It will also provide grass root level exposure by inviting eminent social workers and technical experts from time to time to promote  capacity building and skill development of students. The college would be extending all possible support for mutually beneficial socially relevant community activities. Furthermore, the  students of the college will assist the NGO Open Eyes Foundation in resilience building and counseling of underprivileged section of the society whereas the foundation will provide a platform to the students for their internships and real life exposure.

 



»EXHIBIT OF SPICES IN THE SWAVALAMBAN WINDOW AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE ON CONCLUDING DAY OF POSHAN PAKHWADA 31.03.21

To boost entrepreneurship and to create awareness about healthy eating through consumption of herbs and spices in sync with the theme of Poshan Pakhwada - My Kitchen, My Dispensary, a budding entrepreneur of Home Science College exhibited her products at the swaavlamban window sponsored by SIDBI on the college campus. Sannati, a student of BSc Home Science displayed ready to use spices and their advantages for the teaching, non teaching staff of the college. This Swaavlamban window will be an initiative to promote the budding entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell their products and will provide a platform to them to 'Earn While They Learn'. Principal Prof Sudha Katyal urged the students to benefit from this opportunity provided at the college to help boost their start ups and entrepreneurship. She emphasized on the importance of including spices and herbs in our daily diet to help build up immunity.



»ONLINE RECIPE AND DIGITAL COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 30.03.21

Keeping up with the theme of the Poshan Pakhwada, Home Science College conducted an online recipe making and digital collage making competition on the theme  'My Kitchen My Dispensary. 

More than 60 entries were received for both the competitions. In the recipe making category, Ishika Vijan of BSc Home Science won the first prize for making a herb enriched salad in vinnaigraite dressing. She shared the prize with Anandita of MSc who made   herbal kahwa and Charu Bhatia of PGDND made Basil pasta. 

In the digital collage making category, first prize was bagged by Aparna Mahajan of PGDND Home Science College

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal congratulated the winners and urged them to spread the message of eating healthy herbs through their creativity.



»Hand Washing Techniques Workshop held at Home Science College 30.03.21

On the occasion of Poshan pakhwada an outreach program was conducted by Home Science College.
The audience for the session was School Going Children from Kashmir, Ludhiana , Banur
Highlight of the events included aims of hand washing techniques , hand hygiene and proper hand washing during covid 19 .Right way to wash your hands and
When and how to wash your hands was also advocated. Videos and posters were also shown to the audience.

The audience were also taught how to prepare hand sanitizer at home. More than 50 school going children attended the workshop.

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the participants to follow the 5 sutras of Poshan to ensure sanitation and hygiene to help combat the coronavirus.

 



»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE ADDRESSES MALNUTRITION DURING COVID 19 28.03.21

Keeping in sync with the theme of Poshan Abhiyaan and Poshan Pakhwada for better nutrition during first 1000 days of life, Home Science College organised a webinar on Addressing Malnutrition During COVID 19 in collaboration with Department of Social Welfare for Aanganwadi workers. 

The webinar was presided by Chief Guest Madam Lippi Parida. The session started with an inaugural address by Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal where  she   threw light on how the corona pandemic has changed lives worldwide and brought a disparity in the economic and nutritional status of families. She discussed how the intensity and magnitude of corona has affected malnutrition and increased the hunger index where India ranks 94 out of 107 countries. Corona has provided a great set back to the progress achieved by our country in consonance with the second Sustainable Development goal of ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition. 

This was followed by a special message from the Chief Guest Madam Lippi Parida . She talked about the importance and role of women and especially aanganwadi workers in helping spread the message of eating right. She emphasized on the importance of addressing child malnutrition and the role of Poshan Abhiyaan and Poshan Pakhwada as   key initiatives of the government. 

The resource person of the webinar Prof Neelam Khetarpaul, Emeritus Prof. shared statistics and situation of malnutrition in India. She spoke about how the pandemic has affected the  strategies and nutritional intervention programs of the government. She highlighted the importance of the schemes implemented by the government to help overcome this as well as the role of immunity boosting nutrients like zinc and vitamin C.Madam also spoke about the need to adopt biofortification and cluster agricultural practises to help combat malnutrition. 

The webinar was attended by more than  300 Viewers and aanganwadi workers. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the audience to gain maximum benefit from the webinar and as grass root level front line workers to help spread this message to help prevent onset of malnutrition especially during the pandemic times.



»POSHAN KE 5 SUTRA ADDRESSED AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 24.03.21

A webinar on Poshan ke 5  Sutra was organised by Home Science College as part of the one on going celebrations of Poshan Pakhwada 

Prerna, an MSc student of the college, addressed the listeners on the importance of eating right during the first 1000 days of life. She also emphasized on the importance of including iron rich sources in the daily diet to help prevent anemia. The session was conducted online and was attended by more than 50 viewers. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal motivated the students to conduct such outreach activities to ensure knowledge enhancement and capacity building. She also emphasized on the need for eating right in the first 1000 days of life to help curb the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition

 



»ONLINE OUTREACH ACTIVITY ON AWARENESS GENERATION ON MALNUTRITION AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 22.03.21

As part of the celebrations of Poshan Pakhwada, Home Science College organised an Online Awareness Generation Program on Malnutrition and it's Consequences. 

The session was conducted by Ms. Rajinder Kaur an MSc student of the college. More than 75 viewers attended the live session where she discussed about all the aspects of malnutrition and it's prevention 

Principal of the college, Prof Sudha Katyal urged everyone to spread the message of eating right and prevent malnutrition for a healthy tomorrow.

 



»LIVE DEMONSTRATION ON USE OF KITCHEN HERBS AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 19.03.21

As part of the ongoing celebrations of Poshan Pakhwada, Home Science College organised a live demonstration on use of kitchen herbs in some common recipes, keeping in sync with the theme "My Kitchen, My Dispensary".

The demonstration was conducted by Ms. Anupreet, a student of MSc Foods and Nutrition, who shared tips and recipes of watermelon smoothie, ragi dhokla and cilantro relish incorporating herbs in them. The demo was conducted live on the Facebook page of the college and saw more than 200 viewers. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal motivated the viewers to use locally available herbs in their daily recipes to ensure that the kitchen can really be used as a dispensary.



»Poetry Writing Competition on 19.03.2021

The poet side of NSS Volunteers was witnessed in a poetry writing competition on ‘Role of Freedom Fighters in India’s Freedom Struggle’. A wide array of emotions of patriotism, struggle, hardships and love for the country were portrayed in the writings of the volunteers.

Emphasizing the indomitable spirit, diversified culture and glorious past of India, Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, elaborated on the contribution of freedom fighters in India’s freedom struggle. She further emphasized on the lessons learnt from the past and appealed the volunteers to act with responsibility to keep the dignity of the independence which our country has achieved through immense hardships and sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Further, she also applauded and encouraged the students for their overwhelming participation in the events.

 



»MEDICINAL HERBS PLANTED AT GOVT. HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE TO OBSERVE POSHAN PAKHWADA 18.03.21

In sync with the governments initiative of observing Poshan Pakhwada from March 16 to March 31,2021, Government Home Science College inaugurated the celebrations with planting medicinal herbs in the college herbal garden. 

The theme of this year's Poshan Pakhwada revolves around "My Kitchen, My Dispensary". Keeping this is mind, medicinal herbs like ajwain, tulsi, Basil, elaichi, lemon grass, parsley and oregano were planted. 

A number of activities have been planned to help spread the message of use and importance of herbs in our daily cooking

A movie on Unsung Hero ’Mangal Pandey’ was showcased for the NSS Volunteers followed by an interactive session wherein volunteers shared about lessons learnt and the responsibility they must  uphold to keep the dignity of the independence they now enjoy because of the immense struggle and hardships faced by the unsung heroes.

»Home Science College receives a grant of 1.50 lacs from SIDBI 16.03.21

To enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the budding entrepreneurs of the college and to provide marketing platform to the innovative products and services of the college students and Alumni, Home Science College has received a grant of rupees 1.50 lacs from SIDBI.

The first installment of the grant amounting to Rs 1.20 lacs has been received on March 11, 2021. The grant will be utilised for setting up of display cum Sale point named as Svavlamban window where the budding entrepreneurs of the college will display and showcase their creative products and services. This will help to create a demand for their products. This will also be  linked to the college website, Facebook,  YouTube channel and insta pages.In this way the students and alumini of the college will be given an opportunity to exhibit and showcase their innovative products and at the same time they will be able to  learn the nitty-gritty of running the startups.

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal motivated the students to become Atam Nirbhar by starting their own enterprises and by showcasing their skills and creativity in such activities.

With the efforts of placement teamof the college, Vanshika Mahajan of Bsc 3rd year (Dietetics) has been placed by Nestle at the post of culinary specialist at the salary package of 25000 per month plus bonus after three rigourous rounds of interview and screening. She has recently joined in Gurgaon.

Anuja Rani of MSc Clothing and Textiles 4th semester has been successfully placed as a designer in reputed clothing brand outlet Meena Bazaar, Manimajra, at a salary package of 15000 per month plus bonus.

 



»7 Day special NSS Camp concludes in high spirits in GHSC-10 14.03.21

A valedictory function marked the culmination of the seven day NSS special camp in GHSC-10 that began on March 08, 2021. 

Sh. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer (NSS), Chandigarh Administration (UT) graced the event as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of NSS wing of Home Science College in harnessing the energy of youth for social upliftment and inculcating in them a sense of responsibility for ensuring a sustainable future. Referring to volunteers as the architects of a better India, he exhorted them to promote unity and harmony for national prosperity. He lauded that NSS Unit of Home Science College under the able leadership of Principal, Prof Sudha Katyal , has taken the activities conducted to a higher level in the domain of social outreach and responsibility. 

The valedictory function began with performance of yoga asanas for mental health by the volunteers. This was followed by showcasing of glimpses of all the activities performed during the camp. The camp focused on key initiatives of swacch bharat abhiyan , Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swasth Bharat, skill building & entrepreneurship, self defence, Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat and Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav. Other key features were  Contribution of Freedom Fighters in India’s Freedom Struggle, Recycling and zero waste management. One could see a flashback of all the activities conducted during the camp in a finely scripted Nukkar Natak. In a cultural extravaganza, NSS volunteers sang patriotic songs and showcased a dance on a punjabi and garbha number followed by a special fusion performance to promote EBSB.



»Talk on ‘Role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in India’s Freedom Struggle’ and Stage Play on ‘Inqlaab Zindabaad’ on 13.03.2021

100 NSS volunteers attended a session on the “Role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in India’s Freedom Struggle” by Mr. Mohit Verma, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration, PGGGC-42, Chandigarh and the recipient of State Award for Social Service by Chandigarh Administration on Republic Day, 26th January 2021. The session was organized to celebrate “Bharat ka Amurat Mahotsav”, an initiative by the Government of India to disseminate information regarding the rich cultural heritage of India. The resource person showcased the unparalleled contribution of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in integrating almost 500 princely states within the orbit of the Indian republic. He also advocated Patel’s idea of plurality, the emancipation of backward communities and patriotism as fundamental principles for the growth of the nation at large. The event concluded with a mesmerizing performances by NSS Volunteers showcasing a stage play on the theme  ‘Inqlaab Zindabaad’. 

 



»Importance of Waste Management and role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in India’s Freedom featured on the Sixth day of NSS Camp 13.03.21

The sixth day of NSS Camp started with the myriad activities related to recycling and waste management wherein NSS volunteers participated wholeheartedly. Identifying recyclable material as a resource rather than waste, the rationale was to create awareness among various stakeholders to preserve the earth’s primary resources.

Recognizing the dire need of preserving our natural resources for our future generations, the first session on “Wealth from Waste” was organized in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration and Yuvsatta (a non-government organization). Various Inter-college competitions such as Poster Making, Collage and Best out of the Waste were organized for the students to showcase their innovative and creative ideas centring around the recycling of waste materials in society. The active participation of the students from various colleges along with the creative demonstration of their ideas helped in understanding the urgent need for waste-management.

The esteemed chief guest for the event was Shri Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests,Chandigarh  Administration. Under his guidance, the forest department maintains more than 46% green cover in Chandigarh thereby making this city Beautiful a Green City as well. Talking about MCC’s initiative of the “Wate-segregation” campaign in Chandigarh, he emphasized that cleanliness is a joint venture and the active participation of the people is a pre-requisite for the desirable outcome. The president of Yuvsatta, Mr. Pramod Sharma, who believes in the Gandhian ideals and working tirelessly for the welfare of the community, also advocated that waste management is the key to the successful implementation of “Swach Bharat Abhiyan”. Later, the chief guest along with the Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal presented mementoes to the five best students in respective competitions as a token of appreciation. At his event, Shri Debendra Dalai felicitated the principal of the college, Prof.Sudha Katyal, for achieving the “Best Herbal Garden Award” by the Medicinal Plants Board, UT Chandigarh and Yuvsatta.

Government Home Science College Won Best Herbal Garden Award. Shri Debendra Dalai felicitated the principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, for achieving the “Best Herbal Garden Award” along with a cash prize of Rs5000/-  by the Medicinal Plants Board, UT Chandigarh and Yuvsatta on March 12, 2021 hosted by Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector-36B, Chandigarh.

 



»Live Streaming of Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Essay Writing Competition on the theme ‘Contributions of Freedom Fighters in India’s Independence & Patriotic Group Song Competition on 12.03.2021

About 100 NSS volunteers attended the live programme on “Azadi ka Amurat Mahotsav” launched by our honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji. He talked about series of events ranging from cycle rallies, exhibitions, digital shows, yoga camps, essay competition involving children, local innovation challenge competitions, virtual events, social media campaign to be organized across India within the span of the coming two years to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. The prime minister of India inaugurated various activities such as “Atmanirbhar Charkha”, “Atmanirbhar Incubator” to boost the growth of India.  Further, a padayatra from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi was also flagged off to commemorate the 92 years of Dandi March. At this event, honourable Union Home Secretary, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, advised the Chief Secretaries of state and Union territories to launch various people-centric programmes emphasizing the glorious culture, history, technological advancement and digital initiatives of India. 

Trading along similar lines, the Essay Writing Competition on the theme of “Contributions of Freedom Fighters in India’s Independence” was also organized in the college premises. Moreover, NSS Volunteers also sang patriotic songs as a tribute to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our nation.

 



»NSS Volunteers attended Bharat ka Amurat Mahotsav and learned about Self-Defense Techniques on the Fifth Day of NSS Camp 12.03.21

Continuing with a similar spirit, gaiety and enthusiasm,the fifth day of NSS camp at Government Home Science College started with a reverberating session on yoga wherein students participated with full vigour and practically demonstrated the various yogic asanas practised during the last four days under the supervision of the trained instructor. With the continuous sessions on yoga and meditation techniques, especially in the morning, NSS volunteers feel energetic throughout the day.

To integrate the idea of strengthening the body and mind, the next session by Sh. Pawan Kumar and Ms. Balwinder Kaur (Police Department, Chandigarh) focused on the various self-defence techniques that can be used as a preventive measure in unforeseen and troublesome circumstances. The resource person stressed that the need of the hour is to make the girls physically and emotionally confinement to face every hostile situation in their life. They also advised women to carry the self-defence gadgets such as mini GPS tracker with SOS buttons, vehicle trackers with IoT devices which can be very helpful in the case of emergency.

Emphasizing the indomitable spirit, diversified culture and glorious past of India, the principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, elaborated on the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi ji and his philosophical ideas in the formation of our nation. Further, she also applauded and encouraged the students for their overwhelming participation in the events.
