»Home Science College collaborates with Sofy Unicham to celebrate safe and hygienic Diwali 02.11.21

The Placement cell of Government Home Science College celebrated safe and hygienic Diwali in collaboration with the Sofy,Unicham on November 2, 2021.A team of Sofy Unicham visited the college and sensitized the students about the various hygiene practices adopted during the the menstrual cycle. They also urged the students to celebrate safe and environmental friendly Diwali in the wake of pandemic. They also distributed free samples of environment friendly and antibacterial sanitary pads to students.

Principal Professor Sudha katyal appreciated  the efforts of Sofy team and urged everyone to adopt various safety measures during Diwali.

 



»Government Home Science College Chandigarh actively participated in four day Virtual Summit TECH4SEVA 28.10.21

Government Home Science College Chandigarh actively participated in four day Virtual Summit TECH4SEVA organised by Vijnana Bharti (VIBHA), Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and Centre for innovation and Bio Design (CiBiOD), PGIMER, Chandigarh from Oct 20- 23, 2021. The college exhibited it's virtual stall in this four day online expo based on the theme of Atmanirbhar Bharat, environmental friendly, and sustainable technologies, affordable health care and technology for good agricultural practices. The virtual stall of the college exhibited the seven different innovative startups run by the college students and alumna. The college stall attracted a large number of delegates out of the 24 total virtual stalls in the exhibition. Approximately more than 500 visitors visited the virtual expo. 

The budding entrepreneur of the college Anupreet Kaur Sobti virtually exhibited her stall named Dietaura based on the affordable healthcare and sustainable technologies giving a message of healthy eating with low cost diet recipes. Another stall Satvik foods put up by alumna of the college was based on the traditional foods and healthy eating habits. Stalls displayed by the Clothing and Textile department, based on the eco friendly tie and dye, organic soaps and sanitizers successfully depicted the idea of environmental friendly and sustainable technologies.Department of Human Development and Family Relations virtually exhibited the hand made and child friendly soft toys. Another budding entrepreneur of the college Nimran Kaur virtually exhibited her stall of Golden Ashet based on serving a golden platter consisting of desserts, charcuterie board and amazing grazing made up of freshly grown organic products in the kitchen garden. Budding entrepreneur and student Nidhi running her startup nemed The Knot store exhibited amazing and beautifully woven variety of Macrame art products.

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal expressed her gratitude to the team of Centre for Innovation and Bio Design (CiBiOD) for giving an opportunity to the college students and budding entrepreneurs for being part of this international online expo and successfully achieving the goals of Atmanirbhar and Unnat Bharat. She added that it was a new learning experience for faculty members and students to be a part of such on line exhibition where virtual spaces were 3 D created and allowed the delegates to navigate to different exhibitor's profile through digital plateform.



»Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week at Home Science College, Chandigarh 01.11.21

Various Activities were organized during the entire week. Observance of Vigilance Week commenced with Integrity Pledge on 26-10-2021; Poster Making Competition,  Essay Writing Competition & Elocution on 28-10-2021; Street Play on 27-10-2021 & 29-10-2021 respectively; Sensitization Programme on Impact of Corruption on its Citizens on 30-10-2021 and Awareness Rally on 01-11-2021.

 



»Creativity Showcased at Karwachauth & Diwali Mela by Home Science College Students 19.10.21

The placement cell  of Home Science College organized a Karwachauth & Diwali Mela today at the campus. The Mela provided a platform to students to showcase their creativity and talents. It was an opportunity to help them explore their entrepreneurial skills.

A stall displaying Ganpati ji 's, Torans and Floaters, decorative Diya’s was put up by the students of the Department of Arts. Bright and vibrant colors formed the theme of the exhibition. The students from different departments put up various stalls which encouraged start up initiatives ranging from chocolates, muffins, sandwiches and other snacks to artificial jewellery, ornaments such as earrings, neckpieces, rings along with ceramic items and stylish bags. Mandala art paintings, suits & hand painted dupattas & bags were the centre of attraction. Post graduate students of Department of Foods and Nutrition served nutritious snacks such as Bhel puri & grilled sandwiches, healthy muffins & chocolate cakes. A great response was received from all the stalls as they experienced a brisk sale and were sold out.

The Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts put in by the staff and students. She encouraged them to keep up with the spirit of entrepreneurship and to Earn while they Learn.



»Anupreet of Home Science College Won National Level Competitions organised by Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh 11.10.21

Anupreet of M.Sc. Food & Nutrition (Semester II) has brought glories to the college by securing 3rd Prize in a National Level Social Media Ambassador Competition organized by Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. In this competition, the participants had to post minimum 3 and maximum 10 posts per day for 2 weeks on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, related to Nutrition awareness, memes, recipes etc. The most relevant and creative posts have been awarded.

 

In yet another National level competition titled "Creative Coalition in Poshan Maah: A Convergence of Nutrition Messengers" organized by Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh. She gave a demonstration of Healthy Recipes. Her recipe Samak Tamarind Rice and Ragi Malt has been selected in the top 10 recipes. The selected recipes followed the criteria of Low transfat millet based innovative, nutritious and easy to make with only upto 5 ingredients. The selected recipes were demonstrated during the live event of the competition and shall be published in their recipe booklet.

»SBI sponsors Electronic Visual Display to Home Science College 11.10.21

 State Bank of India sponsored Electronic Visual Display amounting  to Rs. 25000 to Government Home Science College. This electronic visual display will help the budding entrepreneurs to digitally showcase  the  details of innovative  products made by them. It will provide an excellent marketing plateform to the budding entrepreneurs. Principal Prof Sudha Katyal expressed her gratitude to the SBI team for sponsoring this Electronic Visual Display and helping the students to become Atam nirbhar.

 



»NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON ‘FIGHT TO EAT RIGHT’ HELD AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 01.10.21

In sync with the aim of Poshan Abhiyaan to promote healthy and nutritious eating amongst all the age groups right from the beginning, a virtual National Workshop was organized on the theme ‘Fight to Eat Right’ at Home Science College.

The first speaker for the workshop Dt. Yashna Bawa, Dietitian and Asst. Professor, Sanatan Dharma College, Ambala Cantt., Haryana; highlighted the importance of consuming traditional meals and to innovatively modify the regular recipes to healthy well-balanced meals. The second speaker for the workshop Dt. Navdeep, dietician and lifestyle coach; emphasized upon the importance of involving kids in decision making while buying groceries and simultaneously discussing the health benefits of home-made food. She primarily focused on child nutrition and discussed how easily the children can get used to eating nutritious home-made food and further added that mothers’ must not ignore their own bodies and take equal care as they do for other members of the family. The third speaker of the workshop Anupreet Kaur Sobti, Nutritionist and Founder of Dietaura, brought into limelight the significance of gut health and its association with overall health. She discussed the two-plate approach of eating quantified diet and further added the necessity to break the vicious diet cycle amongst the adolescents. The workshop was well coordinated by Maj. Neelam Kumari. More than 50 participants attended the session.
Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the insights shared by the speakers and further motivated the audience to promote traditional eating behaviour highlighting the importance of millets in Indian diet.

Tanu of B.Sc. Home Science(Second Year) won First Position in  ‘Slogan Writing Competition’, Kiran Rawat of B.Sc. Fashion Designing (Second Year) won Third Position and Kiran Kaushik of B.Sc. Home Science(Second  Year ) won a  consolation Prize in an event organised by Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Sector-36, Chandigarh on the theme ‘Mahatma Gandhi Ke Adarsh Sidhant aur Darshan’. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated all the prize winners and encouraged students to participate in such activities more often so as to show  their creative abilities.

 



»Awareness Camp for Women Safety held at Home Science College 30.09.21

In collaboration with Central Detective Training Institute, Chandigarh, Home Science College organized a one day workshop on women safety and welfare. 

The camp was organised for all the students of the college. The aim was to make them aware about the forms of social or sexual harassment that they may face. The session was conducted by Dy S. P. Ms. Pooja Chaudhary. 

Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged and motivated the students to be aware of their surroundings and be safe.

 



»Kitchen Herbs Planted at Home Science College 30.09.21

As part of the ongoing celebrations for Poshan Maah, Government Home Science College took the initiative to plant useful kitchen herbs in the herbal garden on the college campus. 

Ajwain, turmeric, lemon, garlic, lemon grass, basil and cardamom were some of the herbs that were planted. All these herbs find an important place in our diet due to their medicinal and therapeutic properties. Earlier in the month, a demonstration was also conducted on how these herbs could be incorporated in the daily diet. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged all the staff and students to plant herbs in their kitchen gardens and use them in our diets to help build immunity and prevent against onset of diseases.

 



»DEMONSTRATION OF HEALTHY RECIPES AND AWARENESS SESSION ON NUTRITION EDUCATION DELIVERED AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 29.09.21

In sync with the mission of Poshan Maah, Government Home Science College organized an awareness session on Nutrition education. The session was based on significance of consuming a healthy, nutritious, well- balanced diverse diet. 

 

Anupreet Kaur Sobti, M.Sc Foods and Nutrition- 3rd Sem and Agrim Nagra, M.Sc Foods and Nutrition- 1st Sem, addressed the audience. More than 30 students addended the session.  They demonstrated various procedures for detecting food adulterants from the common food products. They highlighted the importance of consuming hygienic food. A number of recipes were demonstrated as healthy snacking options for college going students and further highlighted the importance of consuming millets over refined flours. The concepts of portion size, serving size and importance of timely consumption of food was also explained to the audience.

 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, highly appreciated the efforts of the students of the Department of Foods and Nutrition for generating awareness amongst the masses and bringing into limelight the theme for this Poshan Maah.

 



»GHSC organizes National Webinar on “Nutrition and Lifestyle Management during Covid-19” 26.09.21

Government Home Science College organized a National webinar on “Nutrition and Lifestyle Management during COVID -19” funded and supported by National Commission for Women with the aim to sensitize underprivileged women and the public at large. Sh. S.S Gill, I.A.S, Education secretary, Chandigarh Administration, gave the inaugural address in webinar and applauded the tireless efforts of the college in sensitizing masses about the importance of nutrition, under the Principals’ leadership since the initiation of the Poshan Abhiyaan 4 years back.

Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal gave the keynote address and set the tone for the webinar highlighting ,“ Let Food be thy medicine”. She provided a brief history on the initiation of PoshanMaah celebrations launched by Hon’ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on International Women’s Day in the year 2018. She elaborated on the ‘Multi-ministerial convergence’ feature of the Abhiyaan. Dr. Katyal highlighted the game changers in coping with COVID 19 and urged everyone to improve one's immunity by adopting good food habits and a healthy and active lifestyle.

Dr Snigdha, Asst. Professor of Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology, PGIMER spoke about Impact of Covid 19 on women’s health and how they faced unprecedented problems which led to their deteriorating health conditions. Dr Madhu Gupta, Professor Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER busted the already existing myths related to the vaccination drive in India and gave insightful set of observations on dealing with the post Covid Complications. Further, Dr. Neelam Khaterpal, Emeritus Prof. Foods and Nutrition, HAU, Hisar elaborated on how to prepare oneself for the next wave and the lessons one should take away from this ongoing pandemic.

»SWAVAVLAMBAN MELA AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 21.09.21

In sync with Government's initiative of Atam Nirbhar Bharat, Government Home Science College organized a one- day Swavavlamban Mela in the college campus. The mission of this exhibit was to earn while you learn.
Home Scientists as young entrepreneurs showcased their skills and talents by putting up a plethora of innovative items in a large number of stalls. Dr. Palika Arora, Director Higher Education, PCS, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief guest for the event. She inaugurated the Swavavlamban Window and kick started the Mela. The major attractions of the event ranged from skin friendly organic dyed scarves and dupattas; Cosmetics (soaps, perfumes, rose water, hand sanitizers), nutritious munches including millet based innovative recipes, satvik traditional recipes, macrame decorations, home decors, puppets and cradle toys and Therapeutic diet services launched by budding entrepreneurs. The chief guest highly appreciated the efforts of all students and their creativity.
Ms Navjot Kaur, Director, Social Welfare was the Guest Of Honor of the event. She also applauded the innovative ideas of the students. The deputy director of the Social Welfare department also joined the event.
The Swavavlamban Mela was sponsored by SBI Bank and SIDBI. Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Regional Manager, SBI, also  joined the function and motivated the students to bring forward the best of their abilities and creativity.
A huge footfall was witnessed during the mela while observing all the COVID norms and safety regulations. It was a day filled with fun, innovation and creativity.
Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, congratulated the students for putting up a great show and showcasing their skills and expertise. The students truly earned while they learned. The principal further applauded the efforts of all faculty members and appreciated the team effort put in to make the event a huge success.

Shikha Garg, Assistant Professor in Psychology in the Department of Human Development & Family Relations has completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology on September 20, 2021 from the Department of Psychology, Panjab University, Chandigarh

She worked on the topic entitled, ‘A study of body image among transgender in relation to perceived stigma, stress, anxiety, depression and empathy’.



»Home Science College collaborates with Nestle to organise Healthy Snack Making contest 19.09.21

In continuation with ongoing celebrations of Poshan Maah, Government Home Science College, in association with Nestle, organized a Healthy Snack-making Contest for Pre-School Children from Sept 13, 2021 to Sept 15, 2021. The contest witnessed a huge response from various participants across different colleges. More than 30 students participated and demonstrated innovative snacks like Maggie parantha, dumplings, omellette, vegetable noodle sandwich and noodle soup etc. These recipes were made keeping in mind fussy and picky eaters.The result of the contest was declared on Sept. 17 2021. Recipes were judged on the basis of nutritious content, creativity, uniqueness, ease of preparation. First prize was bagged by Ms. Simranjeet Kaur (B.sc, Dietetics), Government Home Science College, Chandigarh; second prize was awarded to Ms. Shradha Duggal (M.Sc., Foods and Nutrition, 3rd semester), Government Home Science College, Chandigarh; Recipient of third prize was Minal Bansal (B.A. 1st year), R.R. Bawa D.A.V. College, Batala; winners of consolation prizes were Riya Garg (B.Sc. Home Science 3rd semester), Government Home Science College, Chandigarh; and Harmanpreet Kaur (B.Sc. Medical 3rd semester) of RR Bawa College, Batala. 

Principal Professor Sudha katyal congratulated all the winners and appreciated the efforts of various participants in presenting innovative recipes for preschool children. She added that such contests help in creating healthy eating habits among pre school children.

 



»POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION AT HOME SCIENCE TO MARK POSHAN MAAH CELEBRATIONS 18.09.21

As part of the ongoing celebrations of Poshan Maah, an Intra College poetry recitation competition was organised. The students actively participated in the event and recited poems based on nutrition, health and wellness.

»AWARENESS GENERATION SESSION ON ANEMIA AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 16.09.21

To generate awareness about anemia - a growing public health concern, a workshop was organised at Government Home Science College to educate adolescent girls about this growing menace.

Post graduate students of Department of Foods and Nutrition talked about the signs and symptoms of anemia and it's dietary management. This activity was conducted throughout the day in small batches. The session proved successful in helping spread awareness and knowledge about iron deficiency anemia.

Principal of the college Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the students to conduct more such workshops to help spread the message of anemia and make Chandigarh anemia free as per the directives of the government under Poshan Abhiyan.



»Students Won Handsome Cash Prizes in a National Level Essay Writing Competition 14.09.21

Sirjan of B.Sc. Home Science  2nd Year secured first position in English category and Riya Garg & Manika Saini from B.Sc. Home Science 2nd year secured second & third positions respectively in Hindi category in a National Essay Writing Competition  ‘Subodh’ organized by MCM DAV College for Women, Sector-36, Chandigarh. All the winners won handsome cash prizes. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated all the winners for their wonderful achievement.

 



»ROLE OF HERBS DURING PREGNANCY ADVOCATED AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 11.09.21

Continuing with the series of webinars to help spread awareness on healthy eating and nutrition during the month of Poshan Maah, the post graduate students of Home Science College conducted a webinar on the importance of incorporating Indian herbs in the diet especially during pregnancy. 

Ishita Singh a student of MSc Foods and Nutrition spoke about the role of herbs such as thyme, fenugreek, chamomile to name a few. She explained how these could be incorporated in the daily diet. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal emphasized on the importance of not just including these super foods in our diet but also to grow herbs in our own kitchen gardens and adopt this healthy lifestyle.

»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE TOPS AMONGST CITY COLLEGES THIRD TIME IN A ROW IN NIRF RANKINGS 10.09.21

A proud moment for Government Home Science College , Sector 10 , Chandigarh as  the college has been ranked 78th at National Level and has topped amongst all the colleges in tricity , third time in a row, in NIRF India Rankings released today by Ministry of Education, GOI. 

College improved its position from 

86th in 2020 to 78th in 2021. It is the only college in Govt & Private sector in tricity which could secure a position in top 100 at National Level consistently for the last three years. The college has been evaluated under the categories of teaching learning resources, graduation outcome, perception, outreach and inclusivity and research and professional practise. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal congratulated students, teaching faculty and staff for this remarkable and distinguished achievement. Dr. Katyal attributed this success to hard work and dedication  of the entire Home Science team. She further added that the college will continue to excel in all fields and work tirelessly towards its motto of " knowledge for service".

 

 

 



»TWO DAYS WEBINAR SERIES ON NUTRITION AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 09.09.21

Government Home Science College actively conducted a two days webinar series on varied topics of nutrition in sync with the theme of the ongoing Poshan Maah. 

Post graduate students of Department of Foods and Nutrition presented webinars on "Identification and tracking of children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) " and " Menstrual Hygiene and Importance of Nutrition ". The webinar was well attended by students of the college. Highlights of the webinar included signs and symptoms of tracking malnutrition amongst children as well as importance of maintaining menstrual hygiene for adolescent girls. 

Principal of the college Prof Sudha Katyal emphasized on the need for healthy eating habits starting at a young age to prevent the onset of intergenerational cycle of malnutrition.

 



»POSHAN MAAH CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE WITH POSTER MAKING COMPETITION ON FEEDING SMART RIGHT FROM START 06.09.21

On the fifth day of the ongoing Poshan Maah celebrations, a Poster Making Competition was held on the theme Feeding Smart Right From Start. Over 50 creative entries were received by students who participated enthusiastically online as well as offline.
Principal Prof Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of the students and encouraged everyone to adopt a Nutritious Lifestyle from the very start and Eat Right rather than eating less.

 



»DEMONSTRATION OF BOTTLE GOURD ICECREAMS AND CAKE MAKING AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 04.09.21

On the fourth day of the ongoing Poshan Maah celebrations, demonstration cum workshop was conducted on bottle gourd ice cream and cake making in line with the theme of Poshan Maah ' Converging towards a healthy walk through life'.

 

Budding entrepreneur Aanchal Goyal running her online startup named Aanchal Delicacies, demonstrated ice cream made with the bottle gourd and milk. She also discussed the health benefits of various nutrients in bottle guard.

 

Later she also demonstrated healthy dry cakes made with millet and jaggery. The workshop was a kliedsceope to the tastier and healthier ways of cooking green vegetables apart from conventional ones.

 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of budding entrepreneur in providing insight in to an innovative way of using green vegetables in cooking.

 



»DEMONSTRATION OF MILLET BASED RECIPES AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 02.09.21

On the second day of the ongoing Poshan Maah celebrations, students of Department of Foods and Nutrition conducted an online demo on millet based recipes using locally available ingredients in sync with the theme of Poshan Maah ' Converging towards a healthy walk through life'.

Shraddha Duggal of M.Sc. third semester demonstrated commonly consumed recipes such as appam/paniyaram and  a healthy beverage - Bajra Raab using jowar, bajra and ragi. She also discussed the health benefits of incorporating millets in the daily diet.

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the viewers to incorporate locally available millets in the diet to avail their health benefits and prevent onset of chronic diseases.

 



»Poshan Maah Celebrations Kickstarted at Home Science College 01.09.21

Poshan Abhiyaan celebrations, a multi ministerial convergence mission aimed at realising the Hon. Prime Ministers vision of 'Suposhit Bharat' were kickstarted today at Home Science College with a cycle rally using smart bikes. The smart bikes are an initiative by the administration to reduce traffic congestion and reduce the carbon footprint.

Students of the college including NCC cadets conducted a cycle rally which was flagged off by Principal Prof Sudha Katyal. The students on their cycles carried slogans making people aware about the benefits of eating healthy and staying fit.

The rally was taken from the college till matka chowk and to Sector 15 and back. The rally is an initiative to help spread awareness on the benefits of healthy living.

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal encouraged the participants and emphasized on nutrition and health. She further added that this was the start of a month long celebrations and the college would be actively supporting the mission of the government.

 



»Home Science College conducts Health and Wellness session 31.08.21

Home Science college conducted an online Health and Wellness session in collaboration with the Nestle as a prelude to upcoming Poshan  Maah. The session was conducted by culinary specialist and nutritionist Vinni Bhatia from Nestle. She informed the audience about importance of food in one's life and the various micro and the macro nutrients it contains. She gave an in-depth insight into metabolism, gut health, vitamin absorption, sources of micro and macro nutrients in food and also elaborated the sources of various vitamins contained in different sources of food. She very well explained the importance of BMI and intake of nutrition in meals according to it. The session was insightful and more than hundred faculty members and students enthusiastically attended it.                                                                   

Principal professor Sudha Katyal appreciated the informative session in the backdrop of the fact that in today's fast paced life healthy and nutritious food has taken a backseat. Such sessions are immense source of generating mass awareness about healthy eating among various stakeholders.

Environment society “Harita” of Govt. Home Science College celebrated Akshay Urja Diwas sponsored by CREST , Chandigarh  on August 27, 2021, on the theme “Impact of Akshay Urja Diwas in India”.  Various inter and intra college competitions like poster making, bookmark making, face mask painting etc were organised to create awareness of importance and developments of Renewable energy in India in which over 10 colleges participated wholeheartedly.

 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the participants for showcasing creative ways of use of Renewable resources and reiterated that such events would go a long way to encourage and illuminate the masses to make use of renewable energy creatively and help create a cleaner and a greener planet for our coming generations.



»Rakhi Exhibition cum Sale at Home Science College 20.08.21

Keeping up with the spirit of entrepreneurship, students of Government Home Science College, put up an exhibition for sale of rakhi items in the svawalambi window on the college campus. The exhibition showcased exquisite rakhis made out of zardozi, hand painted suits, embroidered dupattas and thalis. 

The exhibition witnessed a large footfall and a brisk sale. The svawalambi window provides an opportunity to the students of the college to showcase not just their work but also helps in capacity building and providing a practical exposure to entrepreneurial activities. 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal encouraged the students efforts and motivated all the young entrepreneurs to avail this opportunity and earn while they learn.

 

 

 



»Display of Nail art and Creative Kids clothing by the budding entrepreneurs in Swavlamban window 17.08.21

In sync with the Government initiative of Atam Nirbhar Bharat, the budding entrepreneurs and students of Home Science College exhibited and displayed their creativity in the Swawlamban Window of the college. Anjali and Gursimar, budding entrepreneurs and students of B.Sc final year  exhibited hand crafted nail art  extensions with options of different sizes and colours.  This budding entrepreneur is running her own online startup with the name Nailsworld by Anjali with more than 1200 followers and catering to the orders all over India.

 

Charu, Shivani,Renu and  Priya  of MSc Clothing and Textiles also displayed the creative and innovative kids clothing based on birthday party theme  in the swabalamban window.

 

Such a platform provided boost and motivation to the students to establish their entrepreneurial Ventures and earn while they learn.

 

Principal professor Sudha katyal appreciated the efforts of placement team and students in taking the initiative towards self employment and enhancement of  entrepreneurial skills.

NCC Cadets of Government Home Science College won cash prizes during a State Level Webinar organised by NCC Directorate (PHHPC) on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

NCC Cadet Nitika secured second position in poetry competition & won a cash prize of Rs2000/- followed by NCC Cadet Shweta Sharma who secured third position in Quiz Competition and won a cash prize of Rs 1000/-. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated the winners and paid tribute to the soldiers of Kargil and highlighted that the feeling of the patriotism should be inculcated at every stage of life so as to make our students value the sacrifices of our Indian soldiers and contribute their part in becoming responsible citizens.

 



»Government Home Science College observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 26.06.21

To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, more than 50 NSS Volunteers took pledge to stay away from drugs and to live a healthy life. Volunteers were sensitized through an online live session on google meet in which,NSS Programme Officers, Dr.Neha Sharma and Mrs.Seema Jaitly addressed upon the issues of youth being vulnerable to drug abuse. They were also made aware of the harmful effects of drugs and its consequences. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal highlighted the significance of counselling and involvement of youth in addressing this issue thereby sensitizing the masses against drug abuse.

Home Science Students Won Second & Third Positions in a series of Inter-college Online Competitions which included Poster/Collage Making, Quiz, Declamation  Competitions organised by Government College of Yoga Education & Health on the auspicious occasion of 7th International Day of Yoga 2021. »Government Home Science College Celebrated 7th International Yoga Day 21.06.21

On the occasion of 7th International Yoga Day, an Online Live Yoga Session was conducted on google meet app. The live session got an overwhelming response of participants. The theme of the session was ‘Yoga for Well-being’. The theme focused on benefits of various yogic asanas and how  these  asanas affect our life. Vedika, a student of B.Sc Home Science Dietetics 6th Semester  demonstrated various ananas like Tadasana, Paschimottanasana, Sethu Bandhasana  and Pranayam including Brahmari, Anulom Vilom  and Kapalbhati along with explaining the importance of each asana. The session was attended by college teaching staff and over 100 NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets.  Audience thoroughly performed  various asanas as demonstrated. It brought a breeze of freshness amongst the participants. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college applauded the efforts of the all the participants who participated in the session with great zeal. She further highlighted the significance of performing yoga asanas and motivated the participants to make yoga part of their life.

 



»Live Peer Learning Workshop on Cake Baking 16.06.21

To enhance the entrepreneurial skills and to make the students self-employed, Live peer learning workshop on cake baking was organised by Muskan Sharma, a bakery specialist and student of MSc (HDFR) in Home Science college Chandigarh on June 13, 2021.

Certified Baker Muskan gave hands on demonstration on baking  Pistachio cake on her FB live session. She also discussed tips and tricks of icing and plating on the cake and also satisfied the queries of audience. The session proved to be interesting and fruitful for all the participants. It witnessed presence of more than hundred participants.
Principal professor Sudha Katyal motivated the students to actively participate in such workshops which nourish the  entrepreneur skills of the students and help them to earn while they learn.

Anupreet, student of (M.Sc F&N) and a budding entrepreneur,has won consolation prize in National level Innovation StartUp India Competition organized by DAV college for Girls, Yamunanagar held  on  24 May, 2021.

Her idea in this competition was based on ‘Integrating Culinary Art with Nutritional Benefits’ especially for masses suffering from any metabolic disorder, that further restricts them from enjoying their favourite delicacies. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated Anupreet.
