»Third Day of Live Yoga Week at Home Science College 21.06.20

On the occasion of 6th International Yoga Day & 3rd Day of Online Yoga Week organised for faculty & students by the college, an Online Yoga Session was conducted on google meet app to celebrate 6th International Yoga Day. The live session was also screened on YouTube app due to overwhelming response of participants. The theme of the session was Yoga at Home & Yoga with Family. The theme focused on benefits of various yogic asanas and how these asanas affect our life. Vedika , a student of B.Sc Home Science 4th Semester  demonstrated various ananas like Tadasana, Paschimottanasana, Sethu Bandhasana  and Pranayam including Brahmari, Anulom Vilom  and Kapalbhati along with explaining the importance of each asana. The session was attended by over 300 participants which included teaching and non- teaching staff and students of the college. Audience thoroughly performed the session as demonstrated. It brought a breeze of freshness amongst the participants. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college applauded the efforts of the organising committee and all the participants who participated in the session with great zeal. She further highlighted the significance of performing yoga asanas and motivated the participants to make yoga part of their life.

 



»One Week live Yoga Session kick started in Home Science College 19.06.20

One week live Yoga session kick statred in Government Home Science College on June 19,2020 for faculty and students as a prelude to the International Yoga Day on June 21, 2020. The session was conducted by yoga practitioner, Vedika , a student of B.Sc Home Science 4 th semester early morning today where she demonstrated various asanas like Tadasana, Paschimottanasana, Sethu bandhasana and Pranayam including Brahmari, Anulom Vilom  and Kapalbhati along with explaining the benefits of each. The Yoga session is being conducted keeping in mind the Covid guidelines for safety of all participants . The session was attended by over 100 participants and  brought immense relief, alertness and a freshness among them. The session  proved to be energizing, transcending, and provided enlightening experience to all participants. Principal Prof Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of organising team and said that such sessions  help in tackling depression and anxiety along with health benefits to all.

 



»INTERNATIONAL ONLINE MANDALA ART COMPETITION ORGANIZED BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 16.06.20

Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh organized an International Online Mandala Art Competition on the theme ‘Art as a Great Healer during COVID-19’. A huge number of participants both nationally and internationally enthusiastically participated in the event. As many as 135 total entries were received on digital platform, out of which 05 were recieved internationally and 130 were at national level.

Mrs Lippi Parida, a renowned artist, brilliant writer and a seasoned photographer was the judge for the competition. Beautiful and praiseworthy Mandala Art creations created by participants mesmerized the judge.  The Mandala Art is a great healer as it relaxes and gives immense pleasure in creating new ideas. It shows the circle of life in relation with spiritualism. It also helps in keeping the negativity of COVID-19 away as it helps a human being to forget and get fully involved in his creation. First prize was bagged by Vishaka of Government Home Science College, Chd and Somanshi Varma, NIIFD, Sec-8, Chd. Second prize was bagged by Prateek Sullar and Amandeep Attrey of Government Home Science College, Chd. Simran of Prem Chand Markanda College, Jalandhar and Khushi Jain of Government Home Science College won the third prizes. Consolation and Special Prizes were also awarded to the students from University of Queensland, Australia; Narsee Monjee Institute of Management, Maharani Kishore Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Rohtak; SD College Jalandhar, IIHS Kurukshetra University, PGGCG-11, Chd, SD College Ambala Cantt and Government Home Science College,Chd.

Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, conceived and developed this idea for the Mandala Art lovers. She motivated the participants and all the artists to participate in such art events.



»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE ORGANIZED INTERNATIONAL MANDALA ART COMPETITION ON ‘ART AS A HEALER’ (June 15, 2020)

Government Home Science College, Chd, organized International Mandala Art Competition on ‘Art as a Healer’ at National and International Level.

 

As many as 130 National and 05 International registrations were received from number of colleges from Abroad and India which was held on June 15,2020. Vishakha and Somanshi Varma ofNIIFD,Sec-8 CHD, bagged 1st prize in this competition followed by Prateek Sullar and Amandeep Attreyof Government Home Science College receiving 2nd Prize in this competition, of Government. Khushi Jain ofGovernment Home Science College Chd, bagged 3rd prize in this competition, Simran ofB.A. Ist yr and Sukriti Khanna ofB.COM-II yr. of S.D. College (Lahore) Ambala, Rajshree of Narsee Monjee Instituute of Management,Delhiand Ananditaof Government Home Science College Chd bagged Consolation Prize, Anusha Jately of Queensland, Australia. Akanksha Rakheja of Government Home Science College CHD, gotSpecial Prize in this competition. Komal Lamshar of Kurukshetra University, Arushi Singh of BSc. Home Science. of IIHS Kurukshetra University , Lavanya Kapoor ofGovernment Home Science College Chd, and Archana Devi ofUniversity College Kurukshetra bagged Special Prize in this competition.



»Home Science College Tops amongst city colleges in NIRF Ranking second time in a row 11.06.20

Government Home Science topped once again amongst all  Govt. and Private colleges of the city in NIRF Ranking 2020 released by MHRD today. 

The  College bagged 86 th rank amongst all colleges at National Level. 

 Home Science College has become the only Chandigarh College to feature in top 100 in National Level Ranking twice in a row.

The college has always strived hard to provide knowledge and opportunities beyond its four walls. Emphasizing on skill building and enhancing entrepreneurial activities, the college boasts of a large number of start ups initiated by the students.

Working towards the same direction, the college recently organised two national level seminars to encourage entrepreneurs and provide a platform for the students to earn while they learn. 

The lockdown has not deterred the spirits of these budding home scientists. Even while confided to their homes, they have found ways to contribute and give back at this time of crisis through making ppe kits, videos of environmental and hygiene practises, healthy eating habits and food safety tips to name a few

The Principal of the college Prof Dr. Sudha Katyal was humbled by this distinguished recognition and lauded the efforts of the faculty, staff and students in bringing laurels to this college not just once but consecutively twice. Dr. Sudha Katyal motivated all to continuously strive to march towards the path of excellence.

 



»INTER-COLLEGE DIGITAL COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION ORGANIZED ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY (June 5, 2020)

The Environment society of Government Home Science College, Chd, organized Inter-College Digital Collage Making Competition at National Level which was held on World Environment Day (June 5th, 2020).As many as 52 registrations were received from no. of colleges. Dixita Raturi of Government Home Science college, sec- 10 , Chdbagged First Prize in Digital Collage Making Competition, Bipasah Mehta of Post graduate government college for girls, sec- 11 , Chd  won Second Prize and Navdha Tanejaof G.G.D.S.D C0LLEGE , sec- 32 , Chdgot third Prize in this event.

Environment society ‘Harita’ organized inter college competition  on Digital Collage making with an environment message to mark the celebration of World Environment Day.

The team Harita is highly thankful to our worthy Principal Madam , Prof.(Dr)Sudha Katyal for encouraging this idea.

More than 50 entries were received  from various colleges of Chandigarh and neighbouring states. All entries were amazing and worth recognition. But the format of the competition was to shortlist the Winners and consolation entries. The result of the competition is  as follows.

 



»HOME SCIENCE STUDENTS ROCK IN VARIOUS ONLINE INTER- COLLEGE COMPETITIONS 05.06.20

 

Besides the coronavirus pandemic that has morphed a number of crucial months of study for the students, home scientists do not lag behind in showcasing their knowledge and artistic skills during a number of online inter- college competitions organized on this day of ‘World Environment Day’.

In the bookmark making competition organized by MCM DAV college, Mallika Malik of B.Sc Home Science bagged first prize, Reet of B.Sc Home Science-II bagged the second prize while Priya Yadav(B.ScH.Sc-II), Ishita Singh (B.ScH.Sc- III), RashmitaSubba (B.ScH.Sc- III) and MuskanSadera (B.ScH.Sc- II) won consolation prizes.

In Poster making competition organized by Post Graduate Government College-46, RashmitaSubba of B.Sc Dietetics-3rdyr was the first runner up.

In addition to this, Priya Yadav of B.ScH.Sc-II was the second runner up in the poster making competition organized by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sec-26, Chd.

Government Home Science College also organized an Intercollege Digital Collage making competition on the theme ‘Nature healing itself and COVID-19’ for which more than 50 entries have been received from a number of colleges.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the students for their hardwork and never dying spirit. She motivated the students to actively participate in more upcoming events. She also sensitised the students about the importance of biodiversigty and its role in human survival.



»HOME SCIENCE STUDENTS SHOWCASE TALENT DURING THIS CHALLENGING TIME 25.05.20

Besides a number of hurdles during this challenging time of coronavirus pandemic, our talented future Fashion Designers made their mark.  Students participated in mask and glove making competition organized by Mehr Chand Mahajan, DAV College for Women, Sector-36, Chandigarh.

Our students designed trendy and stylish masks and gloves making the best use of resources available. Sonika of PG Diploma Fashion Designing bagged first prize in Glove making competition. Priya Yadav of B.Sc Fashion Designing 3rd Year won third prize and Anamika of PG Diploma Fashion Designing won a special prize in mask making competition.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the students for their efforts and further encouraged them to motivate others as well to become Corona Warriors.

 



»ONLINE COMPETITIONS & SENSITISATION ACTIVITIES ON COVID-19 BY GHSC-10 01.05.20

With an endeavor to sensitize the students about the concerns related to COVID-19 and generate awareness about the precautionary measures that must be adopted, Government Home Science college, Sec 10, Chandigarh, organized  a competition on digital collage making on the theme COVID-19. 

The theme was chosen to highlight the seriousness of the pandemic and to make masses aware of the globally growing cases that need urgent attention.The students actively participated in the competition and beautifully designed colourful collages depicting the origin of pandemic, how it could be prevented and what should be done to stay positive and optimistic. during this difficult time.  All participants effectively used digital platform as most of them lacked  resources like paints, brushes and canvases during lockdown.

In addition to this, under the dynamic leadership of the Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal, the faculty and students of the college developed and shared YouTube videos  related to relevant themes like how to stay fit and mentally healthy during pandemic, how to clean and sanitize your mask, ensuring food safety during covid-19, how to disinfect your food supply during covid-19, yoga and aerobics and how to make organic hand sanitizer to name a few.

Consistent efforts were made by the  students and faculty of the college  to serve the masses in whatever humble way they can do during the pandemic.In this regard, NCC cadets and  students of the college  stitched approximately 1000 masks for distribution to the masses.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, encouraged the faculty and students for making efforts towards keeping the society aware of the Coronavirus pandemic even during lockdown. She emphasized on proactive role of home scientists as counsellors, dietitians and fashion designers to help people stay fit, healthy and positive during this difficult time.

 



»Svavlambi Warriors of Home Science Serving the humanity DURING COVID-19 27.04.20

During pandemic, when many of us  are sitting idle during quarantine time, the skills of home scientists are proving boon to masses.A number of students of Govt. Home Science College  are not only successfully exploiting their skills  to serve the humanity by working from home  but also generating the income for themselves and thereby setting an example for others. Some students of the college are honing their skills, serving and earning by helping the corona warriors. Anuja of M.Sc. Clothing and Textiles is stitching PPE kits for frontline  warriors. Similarly, Parul of B.Sc. Home Science 1st Year is working as a medicine vendor by providing home delivery of medicines and helping the masses to cure themselves. 

Apart from attending their online classes, some of the home scientists like Abha of M.Sc. Home Science has taken the initiative by rendering her teaching services to children with special needs like those suffering from dyslexia and learning disabilities. She is doing this noble task using digital platform and is also earning at the same time. Sheenu of M.Sc. Home Science is also taking online tuition. Many students of M.Sc. Foods and Nutrition are assisting the people belonging to all walks of life to remain fit and healthy by giving them diet counseling. They are effectively using the internet and sharing healthy recipes, blogs and nutritive meals for staying fit during pandemic. 

The alumni of the college also did not lag behind in utilizing this quarantine time. Isha Dhaliwal, Ph. D. Scholar and Founder of start-up Tea-Kombucha and Mandeep Kaur, Clinical nutritionist and wellness professional are helping people to remain in pink of health by giving them nutritive counseling through various digital platforms like instagram, facebook and whatsapp groups. 

 Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal, encouraged and motivated these Svavlambi warriors to further their efforts and appreciated them for not letting down their spirits of working and learning during this difficult time. She appreciated the dedication of students for honing their skills and at the same time serving the masses. She further motivated others to do the same. The faculty of the college is also playing an active role by taking online classes besides developing and sharing YouTube Videos on crucial issues and concerns during this crisis like boosting immunity, nutritional and Psychological counseling, tips for hygiene and sanitation , ways of sanitizing groceries,  creative activities during quarantine, making  and sanitizing masks, to name a few.

 

 



»USE OF MILLETS ADVOCATED IN HOME SCIENCE SPORTS MEET 09.03.20

Government Home Science College Sector-10 Chandigarh celebrated its 55th Annual Athletic Meet with great zeal and fervor on March 09, 2020. The two day sporting event including semi-finals and finals began with inauguration by Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the College, followed by the unfurling of the college flag and oath taking ceremony. The event began with the marching of coordinated footsteps of students in the parade led by the sports captain Ankita. The lighting of the Presidency Torch was carried by sports stars of the college, Shweta Kadiyan, Kanika Lubana, Priyal Kaushik, Jaspreet Kaur Sohal and Muskan Mathur. The day was filled with excitement experienced amidst thrills, shrills and cheers. Mrs. RajBala Malik, Mayor, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest. She congratulated the college to carry out the initiative of not just spreading the message of fitness on the sports field but also advocating the use of millets in our daily diet and emphasizing on healthy eating. Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, Councillor of Ward no.1, was the Guest of Honour for the day. Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal gave a floral welcome to the chief guest and introduced her to the audience.

Students, teaching and non- teaching sta enthusiastically participated in various events like three legged race, long jump, shotput, javelin, discuss throw, sack race, obstacle race and other track activities. The most enthralling event was the musical chairs. All impressive performances of Yoga, Aerobics and ludi/ Bhangra dance by the students kept the audience enthralled.  The chief guest congratulated the prize winners and motivated the students to perform with same zeal and fervor in all future endeavors. Supriya Chandel of BSc. Fashion Designing 4th Sem was declared as the best athlete. The event was supported and sponsored by Oppo and Red FM umbrellas. Unichem’s feminine hygiene brand Sofy collaborated with the college in this event to create awareness about maintaining hygiene in routine life.

The Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal expressed her gratitude to all the teachers for their cooperation and support and advised students to keep up their sportsman spirit. The function concluded with the flag retreat ceremony and giving away of vote of thanks by Mrs Mona Soin, the Sports Incharge. 



»National Science Day Observed at Home Science College 03.03.20

Government Home Science College in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology Renewable Energy (CREST),Chandigarh Administration celebrated National Science Day on the theme ‘Women in Science’. The day witnessed a host of activities which included poster making, slogan writing, quiz and collage making. More than 100 students actively participated in all the activities. Dr. Suman Singh, Principal Scientist, CSIR –CSIO, Chandigarh spoke about the importance and role of women in science. She also highlighted prominent women and shared about their contributions in various fields of science. Prizes were awarded to the students for all the competitions. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal encouraged the students to apply their knowledge of science and pursue their scientific temperament to achieve laurels. 

 



»Home Science Students bring laurels by Winning Inter-College Antakshri Competition 01.03.20

The students of Home Science College bagged 3rd prize in the final round of Antakshri Competition held on 1st March 2020 in 48th Rose Festival organized by Municipal Corporation. Arti and Pallavi of B.Sc. Home Science 1st year won the competition. Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal congratulated the students and motivated them to participate enthusiastically in such events.

 



»3-DAY TECH-EDUCATION WORKSHOP ON RESUME DESIGNING CONCLUDES AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 29.02.20

As another Placement initiative and with the objective of making the students aware about designing of resumes on digital platform, a three-day Tech-Education hands on training workshop on Resume Designing was held from 24th February to 26th February, 2020 in Government Home Science College by the Placement cell. The workshop was organized in collaboration with NGO ‘Girls x Tech’. More than 20 students of B.Sc Home Science 3rd Year successfully attended the workshop. 

The workshop proved to be quite fruitful and gave a deep insight to the students regarding working in CANVA software, a multimedia design platform that helped the students to create social media graphics, presentations, posters and other visual content. Students were provided with hands on training of making resume designs, invitations, logos, brochures, presentations, videos and animations. The students were also made familiar to the designing of presentation in customized templates.

The workshop also trained the students on creating their LinkedIn accounts, thus introducing them to the world of seeking job opportunities. Students were felicitated with certificates on successful completion of the training.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, congratulated the students for the successful completion of this workshop and motivated them to participate enthusiastically in digital workshops to enhance their knowledge in the digital aspects for a better future and placements.



»Talent of Home Science Students galore in Rangoli Competition in different Inter-College events 26.02.20 and 28.02.20

The students of Govt. Home Science College participated in Rangoli Competition held on 26th February 2020 during Euphoria 2020 of Govt. Medical College, Sec-32, Chandigarh and brought laurels for our college. Alka Badyal student of M.Sc. HDFR 1st year, Akanksha Rakheja and Prachi Bansal from B.Sc. H.Sc. 2nd year won 1st prize in the competition. Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal congratulated the students and motivated them to participate passionately in such competitions.

 

The students of Govt. Home Science College participated and showcased their creative skills in Rangoli making Competition during Rose Festival held on 28th February 2020 at Rose Garden, Chandigarh. Namita and Riya, students of B.Sc. Home Science 3rd year IDRM won 1st and 2nd prize respectively in Rangoli with flowers category. Akanksha Rakheja from B.Sc. Home Science 2nd year won 1st prize in Rangoli with eco-friendly material category. Principal Dr. Sudha Katyal applauded the students and encouraged them to participate avidly in these competitions.

 



»CAPACITY BUILDING AND TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR STREET VENDORS HELD AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 27.02.20

In an endeavor to generate awareness regarding food hygiene and sanitation, Government Home Science Collegein collaboration with Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER and Vendor’s Cell, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized a Capacity Building and Training Workshop on Convergence of initiative of women, child and social development agencies of Chandigarh for mainstreaming street vendors’ welfare through integrated training enterprise of its Municipal Corporation with special focus on street food hygiene. More than 50 students, street vendors, mess and canteen workers attended the workshop.

Dr Poonam and Dr Geeta Mehra outlined the importance of food safety for the health of consumers. Mr Harkit Singh from Panjab National Bank, Chandigarh spoke about financial literacy and by laws . A nukkad natak was also enacted by the postgraduate students of the college to highlight this need of the hour amongst the audience.

Principal of the college, Prof. SudhaKatyal, highly appreciated the students for their active participation to generate awareness regarding proper personal hygiene in our lives. She further motivated the students to follow proper guidelines to maintain hygiene and sanitation to control the spread of disease causing microbes. 

 



»SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON DIETCAL 27.02.20

With an aim to provide the appropriate knowledge regarding DietCal software to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Food and Nutrition Department, a workshop on Skill Development and Capacity Building was organized at Home Science College. More than 50 students and faculty members of the Food and Nutrition department attended the workshop.

Dr. Gurdeep Kaur, Sr. Dietitian and Proprietor DietCal, was the resource person for the session. She highlighted the various features of DietCal software meant for providing the most commonly and frequently required dietary calculation needs and informed the audience that the software is primarily for Dietary calculations keeping in mind the Indian dietetic scenario. She also elaborated the procedure for purchasing and installation of the software. In addition to this, she brought into limelight that the pre-installed figures are based on Indian Data (NIN, ICMR) and the software is also equipped with the feature of editable central repository of nutrients and their measure units as well as food items classified by food groups and their nutritive values. The workshop proved to be highly beneficial for the students as well as faculty members as they could successfully gain knowledge regarding number of features of the software.



»HEALTHY MILLETS RECIPE COMPETITION AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 26.02.20

To promote ‘Self- Reliance through Health and Entrepreneurship’ and to observe the “Year of Millets”, Government Home Science College in collaboration with Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED), organized a healthy millet recipe competition on behalf of the National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. More than 30 post graduate and under graduate students participated in the competition. Sh. SK Mehta from Food Processing Institute, Food and Nutrition Board and Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal were the esteemed judges for the event.

A wide range of recipes ranging from jowar pockets to ragi dhokla and ragi chocolate lava cake were prepared by the students. Prizes were awarded for best recipes and best innovation.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, motivated the students to observe this year as the “Year of Millets” in sync with the initiatives of the government and congratulated them for their enthusiasm in participating in the event and further encouraged them to opt for healthy options in the diet by replacing the refined flours with nutrient rich counterparts of wheat and rice.

 



»WORKSHOP CUM DEMONSTRATION ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DRAPING TECHNIQUES AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 25.02.20

As a placement and skill development initiative, Government Home Science College organized a workshop on Skill Development and Sustainable Draping Techniques that aimed to enhance creativity amongst students and train them to create fashion through zero- waste approach. The workshop cum demonstration focused on reusing waste cloth material for creating newer designs and reinventing fashion. More than 150 students including faculty members attended the workshop.

Ms. Jharna Joshi, Associate Professor, University of Petroleum and Energy studies, Dehradun was the resource person for the workshop. During the workshop, she elaborated the importance of sustainable fashion and emphasized on sustainable use of fashion products and the fashion system towards greater ecological integrity. Students were demonstrated and equipped with knowledge about the ethical consumption of fashion products and its various environmental impacts. She demonstrated a number of sustainable draping techniques from reused sarees on the mannequins showcasing gorgeous and luxury eco-styles. At the end of the workshop, students were able to correlate the session with what inspires them the most as a fashion identity.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, motivated the students for their active participation in workshops promoting green and sustainable fashion. She further sensitized the students about the importance of dynamic overview and unique opportunities in the field of designing.



»NATIONAL SEMINAR ON INNOVATIONS AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 20.02.20

A National Seminar on ‘Home Science: Nurturing Innovations & Skill Development’ sponsored by College Development Council, Panjab university, Chd, was held at Government Home Science College on February 20, 2020. The seminar was a step towards bridging academia with industry and entrepreneurship and aimed to unleash the creative potential of every individual in sync with the multi-disciplinary approach of Home Science thereby encouraging new innovations. The seminar provided a platform for more than 150 delegates including academicians, research scholars, PhD scholars, faculty and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country.

 Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, Government Home Science College, delivered the welcome address. The event commenced with the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony.  The honorable Chief Guest of the seminar, Prof. Neelam Grewal, Member, Punjab Public Service Commission, Ex-Dean Home Science as well as PG Studies PAU Ludhiana and former Director, ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneshwar delivered the inaugural speech. She talked about importance of skill development in today’s time and further stressed upon the necessity to identify gaps and then developing skills. She briefed the audience about the skill development programs and highlighted that ideation is the first step to Innovation.

 After the inaugural session, a plenary session on ‘Start-ups and Entrepreneurship’ was addressed by Dr. Dinesh Dua, Indian Chairperson, Start-Up and Entrepreneurship cum CEO, Nectar Life Sciences Ltd. He emphasized upon need and significance of having ‘Start-ups and Entrepreneurships’ for today’s youth. He highlighted that India has brought about dynamic changes in the start-up ecosystem owned by majority of young population. He elaborated the key drivers pushing the Indian start-up economy and concluded by motivating the audience to be innovative and become the young generation entrepreneurs.

 This was followed by a panel discussion woven around the theme ‘Ek kadam Swawlamban ki aur’. The key panelists were Emeritus Prof. Neelam Khetarpaul, Ex- Dean of IC College of Home Science, CCS Hisar Agricultural University, Hisar; Ms. Liza Chawla- founding member and President of the NGO- Chhoti si Asha; Ms. Laveleen- a renowned Dietician and Alumna of the college; Ms. Richa- founder Cleopatra, renowned Wellness and Nutrition Consultant; Mr Sumeer Walia-, Director,  Chitkara University Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development-CEED, Punjab and Ms. Suman Singh, AGM, SIDBI (Small Industrial Development Bank of India). The panel members discussed their journey from employee to entrepreneurs in their respective fields. The audience were informed about the various sources of funding and taking loans under various government schemes. They highlighted the role of drivers and mentors in taking forward the vision of start-ups.  They further encouraged the audience to take calculated risks for their start-ups and never lose hope in incidences of failures. They were motivated to face challenges with confidence and move ahead with high spirits.    

 Oral and poster presentation sessions were conducted post lunch.

The stall showcased a wide array of products ranging from nutritious chocolates, mini donuts, healthy muffins, handmade jewellery, health drinks, bottle covers, keychains, pouches, quilling products etc.

The day saw a plethora of academic activities. Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal congratulated all the staff members for hosting this day full of academic insights and discernment so successfully. She also appreciated the young talents for showcasing their applaudable efforts and further encouraged them to keep up with the spirit of entrepreneurship by racking their brains to think out of the box.

 



»TALENT OF HOME SCIENTISTS GALORE IN SKY 17.02.20

A number of students of Government Home Science College showcased their talents at various events and competitions and brought laurels to college. 

Students bagged a number of prizes during the Science Fest-2020 held at MCM DAV College for Women on the theme ‘Emerging Trends in science and Technology’. Khushi from from B.Sc. (Fashion Designing) - 3rd Year bagged 1st prize in Green fashion Show showcasing sustainable lifestyle clothing. She designed a dress whose upper top resembled a solar panel and bottom skirt resembling solar energy highlighting the process of utilizing solar energy for production of electricity. She won the title of ‘Eco-Friendly Queen’. Rashmita Subba from B.Sc. (Dietetics) - 3rd Year bagged first prize in Poster making Competition. She depicted sustainable features as well as eco-friendly raw sources for sustainable development in her poster. Akanksha Rakheja and Chetna Vats from B.Sc. (Home Science) – 2nd Year won first prize in Scientific Rangoli. With this, the college bagged the Overall Trophy during the Science Fest-2020.

Home science girls also participated in the 8-day extravaganza ‘Chandigarh Urban Festival’ held from February 09 to February 16, 2020. The Bhangra team of the college bagged 2nd prize while the aerobics team won the consolation prize. The performances were highly appreciated by the spectators.

In addition to this, Rashmita Subba, a student of B.Sc. (Dietetics)- 3rd Year bagged third prize in Poster making Competition on the theme ‘Digital India’ after competing with a number of other students from various colleges and universities of tricity during an intercollege Economics Fest ‘Econoverse’ was held at MCM DAV College for Women on February 12, 2020. Other participating students were felicitated with participation certificate.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the students on their brilliant performances as they brought laurels to the institution. She also congratulated the prize winners for keeping alive the inimitable tradition of excellence of Government Home Science College and further advised the students to never rest on their laurels and exhorted them to work with more dedication towards their goals.



»NAAC SPONSORED NATIONAL SEMINAR ON QUALITY ENHANCEMENT AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 14.02.20

A NAAC sponsored National Seminar on ‘Quality Enhancement in Higher Education’ was held at Government Home Science College on February 14, 2020. The main theme of the seminar centered upon improving the qualitative aspects of education as per the directives of assessment and accreditation criteria of NAAC. The seminar provided a platform for more than 110 delegates including academicians, research scholars, PhD scholars, faculty and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country.

Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, Government Home Science College, delivered the welcome address. The honorable Chief Guest of the seminar, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Director (Home Science, School of Applied Sciences and Technology) and Ex- Registrar, University of Kashmir, Srinagar delivered the inaugural speech.  She emphasized upon the need of quality enhancement to ensure a better future of the students.

Four plenary sessions from technical experts of various fields were conducted.

Dr. Archana Mishra, NAAC Incharge Haryana-cum- Principal, Government College, Sector-1, Panchkula, Haryana, emphasized on ‘Best Practices in Higher Educational Institutions’. She brought into limelight various strategies that a college must adopt to score well in this criterion and further elaborated Divyaang friendly and PATANG programme that a college must adopt for improvising the score.

Dr. Dalip Kumar, Additional State Project Director, RUSA, Sector- 42, Chandigarh emphasized on ‘Online Assessment and Accreditation Methodology in Revised Accreditation Framework’. He highlighted the various criterions of NAAC assessment and the dynamics of revised framework. He elaborated the registration process in detail and concluded his words by quoting that education, quality education and poverty eradication goes hand in hand.

Sarvjeet Singh, CII Chairman Co- Founder and Managing Director of Finvasia Group of Companies Chandigarh highlighted the ‘Role of Incubators and Accelerators in Higher Education’. He elaborated the difference between incubators and accelerators and encouraged the audience to evolve themselves with changes and build networks with alumni to gather experiences.

Dr. Amol P Bhondekar, Sr. Principal Scientist, Agrionics- Post Harvest Technologies, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh elaborated the ‘Importance of R&D-Academia Interface for Higher Education’. He emphasized on the pillars of global competitiveness and various strategic technologies that must be adopted.

Parallel oral and poster presentation sessions were conducted post lunch.

»HOME SCIENCE STUDENTS DID A BRISK SALE IN 11th PANJAB UNIVERSITY ROSE FESTIVAL February 7-9,2020

The students of Government Home Science College put up a number of stalls of skilled items to show case their start-up activities learnt during their course in 11th Panjab University Rose Festival, Chandigarh as a part of 'Earn While You Learn' initiative. Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, P.U. was the chief guest for the event. The students of B.Sc Home Science showcased the display of handwork items with a professional touch like quilling boxes, earings, keychains, photo frames, wall hangings, lampshades, glass items, canvas paintings, fabric items, decorative bottles, paper bags, shagun envelops and homemade chocolates etc. under the leadership of Mrs. Seema Jaitly. The stalls received tremendous response at the event.

The stall proved a big hit among the young crowd of the festival. A tattoo making stall was also put up by the students. Students were highly appreciated for their efforts by the honorable chief guest.

»AWARENESS LECTURE ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND CONSUMER EDUCATION IN HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 30.01.20

In an endeavor to intensify the role of students as responsible consumers and basic understanding of Intellectual Property Rights, Government Home Science College organized an awareness lecture on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and Consumer Education’ for the students of B.Sc. Home Science 3rd year.

Ex Justice Madhu P. Singh, Executive Member, Consumer Association, Mr. S.D. Singh, Chairman and Mr. S. Virdi, Member, Consumer Association were the guest speakers for the day. Mrs Madhu P. Singh elaborated the Intellectual Property Rights as important drivers of growth and prosperity of a business that can turn out to be highly valuable assets of the business. She described the four types of Intellectual Property rights i.e. Trade Marks, Copyrights, Designs and Patents. She also discussed the importance of registration and protection of each property right further emphasizing on its creation and statuary enactment. In addition to this, she emphasized on the necessity to conduct consumer education programs to raise the level of awareness and understanding of consumers. She also elaborated basic Consumer Rights and Responsibilities and the salient features of the Consumer Protection Act 1986. She described the procedure of filing case in the consumer courts in case of violation of consumer rights. She informed the students to be more conscious and cautious in selecting products and services with an assurance of quality, safety and competitive price since they should not compromise the health, safety and welfare of their family by patronizing products that are cheaper, but of low quality and substandard.

Principal of the college, Prof. SudhaKatyal, expressed her gratitude to the guest speakers of the day. She further motivated the students to be responsible and cautious consumers and generate awareness about the same to minimize the exploitation of consumers by unscrupulous traders and lessen the proliferation of uncertified and substandard products.

 



»COLLEGE GRANTED PROJECT WORTH Rs. 90,000/- FROM DST

The college has been granted a short term research project entitled “To Study the Relationship between WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Practices and Micronutrient Deficiencies in Adolescents by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.

Financial assistance amounting to Rs. 90,000/- has been assigned for this short term research study.

 



»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE CELEBRATES 71st REPUBLIC DAY 26.01.20

On the auspicious day of 26 January, Government Home Science College celebrated 71st Republic Day filled with a feeling of patriotism and dedication. The celebration started with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal. It was followed by the recitation of the National Anthem. Prof. Katyal addressed the audience by highlighting the importance of the Constitution and its unique features such as Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic and Republic enshrined in the preamble of the constitution. She also gave an insight on the six fundamental rights as the basic human rights of all citizens.

Adding to the patriotic aura, the college campus turned reverberated with the rhythmic vocal performances presented by the students. Furthermore, the students also presented a splendid dance performance on ‘Vande Mataram’. The tiny tots from Chaitanya nursery school also gave enthralling performances. The program ended with the message to create a great nation through collective efforts from all individuals.



»WORKSHOP ON GROOMING TECHNIQUES AND SAFE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA 22.01.20

Government Home Science College, Sector- 10 held a session on Grooming techniques and safe use of social media in collaboration with Sarthi Trust and LUVYA-The Fashion House of Sec 7C. Noted International Fashion Designer of city Neetu Arora volunteered her services to students of Home Science College while teaching them tips of self-grooming. The session was attended by fashion designing Students along with teachers and other stream students. As many as 110 students learnt the way to style themselves in the least possible budget. 

Fashion Designer Neetu Arora and Sarthi Trust Chairman Taruni Gandhi was welcomed by Principal Ms. Sudha Katyal with Placement Coordinator Dr. Shabana Gandhi. While interacting with students Arora exerts that it is not true that people are going to judge you with your clothes but it is also pertinent to know that one should dress up wisely for first own-self and then as per atmosphere, time and weather. While telling students about body types, color and styling,Neetu Arora emphasized on Positive attitude while carrying different styles everyday and gave social message that every girl should first Love and accept herself.Taruni Gandhi, informed the students regarding the wiser use of social media and shared various strategies that one must follow to sustain their safety in public places.  She also shared the importance of using ‘Share Location’ feature on google maps to intimate their actual location to their known ones.She shared her thoughts on emotional balancing and  makeoneself secure while working at different places.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the guest speakers of the day by presenting a token of love and regards to them. She further motivated the students to adopt such strategies to safeguard themselves.



»ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED TO PROMOTE FIT INDIA CAMPAIGN AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 18.01.20

With an aim to promote Fit India Campaign and improvise mobility and body balance, NSS volunteers of Government Home Science College performed physical training exercises and enthusiastically played different sports in the college ground.  Volunteers were informed of the various health benefits of different exercises and importance of performing sports in our day to day lives for the betterment of our health.

Volunteers also played sports that originated in ancient India. The main motto was to promote the Indian culture and emphasizing upon the nation- wide campaign of Fit India Campaign that aims to encourage people to include physical activity and sports in their everyday lives. Various sports such as kho-kho was played which added to the zeal amongst the students.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the students for their contribution in this campaign and highlighted the importance of fitness, especially in the times we live in and added that people must change their mindsets when it comes to physical fitness. She further motivated the students to be active volunteers with an endeavor to promote this national campaign. 



»SEVEN DAY SPECIAL NSS CAMP CONCLUDED WITH ENTHRALLING PERFORMANCES AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 17.01.20

The NSS wing of Government Home Science College celebrated the valedictory day of seven days special NSS camp on January 17, 2020. The camp was inaugurated on January 11, 2020. Shri. Bikram Rana, State Liaison Officer was invited as the honorable chief guest for the day.  The ceremony commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony.

Shri Bikram Rana interacted with the NSS volunteers for their feedback about the camp. He conducted a few activities along with the volunteers with an aim to motivate them to review their perspective for whatever they do in their lives. He appreciated the efforts of the enthusiastic volunteers and emphasized the need for community service. He further added that real joy lies in serving others and making the world around us a better place to live in. He also congratulated the NSS volunteers on their outstanding efforts and motivated them to focus on communitarian approach. A glimpses on all the activities performed during the camp was also shown to the Chief Guest. Sir highly appreciated the efforts of the volunteers in making this camp a success.

NSS volunteers gave enthralling performances. Volunteers performed Garbha in order to promote the national flagship program ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and highlight the culture and traditions of the appointed paired state U.T. Dadra and Nagar Haveli influenced by Maharashtrian and Gujarati culture. They also made an effort to generate awareness regarding ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ through an informative NukkadNatak. The day concluded with an energetic bhangra performance and reciting National Anthem. Principal of the college, also presented a token of gratitude and regards to honorable chief guest for the day.

Prof. Katyalapplauded the efforts of the NSS volunteers and their mentors for their innovative ideas and dedication. She also motivated the volunteers to continue with the motto 'Not Me But You' with more responsibility and make use of this opportunity and contribute their bid in transforming the society.



»NSS VOLUNTEERS MARCHED FOR ROAD SAFETY 16.01.20

In an endeavorto extend electoral literacy andto promote the national flagship programme ‘Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation’ also known as ‘SVEEP’, a poster making and slogan writing competition was organized on the theme ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’ on the sixth day of seven day special NSS Camp. The main objective of this competition was to spread voter awareness and promote voter literacy in India. It also aimed to work towards preparing India’s electors and equipping them with basic knowledge related to the electoral process. The volunteers enthusiastically participated in the competition and designed beautiful posters and slogans to promote the same.

During the second half of the day, NSS volunteers organized an awareness rally as a part of 31st National Road Safety week 2020 observed from January 11, 2020 to January 17, 2020 under the theme ‘Bringing change through Youth Power’. The rally witnessed participation of a number of volunteers. The rally was flagged off from college under the guidance of NSS incharge Dr. Neha Sharma. The volunteers holding banners, posters and placards in their hands chanted slogans for generating awareness amongst the common masses. Prior to this, the volunteers had actively participated by making beautiful posters and writing motivational slogans in order to highlight and emphasize the need for safe roads. Volunteers urged the masses to take cognizance of the issue and to join hands to make road safety a social movement. Later on, the volunteers prepared for the valedictory event to be conducted the following day. Vounteers wholeheartedly practiced for their performances with full zeal and fervor.

Principal of the college, Prof. SudhaKatyal, highly appreciated the efforts of the volunteers in generating awareness amongst the people about the importance of road safety and emphasized on the fact that if road safety products are utilized correctly or efficiently, they can help save lives, prevent accidents and injuries and keep a society functioning in the most optimal way. She further motivated the volunteers to be the agents of change and realize that ‘Every Vote Counts’.



»AWARENESS ON MENSTRUAL HYGIENE AND PULSE POLIO IN NSS CAMP 15.01.20

Fifth Day of Seven Days Special NSS Camp in Home Science College witnessed awareness on Menstrual Hygiene and Pulse Polio Campaign. With an aim to promote Fit India Movement and build strength, awareness and harmony in both mind and body, Yoga sessions were conducted by the enthusiastic volunteers. Volunteers performed various ‘Asanas’ to improve respiration, energy and vitality and further improvise their athletic performance. They were informed about the benefits and importance of yoga in our daily lives.

During the second half of the day, a menstrual hygiene campaign was conducted for the volunteers in collaboration with Unicharm’s feminine hygiene brand Sofy. The objective of the campaign was to generate awareness about menstrual hygiene by dispelling myths and taboos related to this issue. The main aim was to discredit shame related to menstruation and sensitize the volunteers to consider menstrual phase as a blessing and follow proper standards of hygiene and sanitation. Sofy distributed its environment- friendly and anti- bacterial premium quality sanitary pads free of cost to all the volunteers of the NSS camp. Later on, Dr. Sonalika Yadav, Civil Dispensary, Sector-11, Chandigarh was the guest speaker of the session. She sensitized the volunteers about the Pulse Polio Immunization (PPI) Programme running from January 19,2020 to January 21, 2020 launched by the President of India ahead of National Immunization Day which is observed on 18 January every year. She informed the volunteers about the key facts of Polio, a highly infectious viral disease and enlightened their knowledge by creating awareness regarding the transmission of virus from one person to another. She emphasized upon various symptoms that must not be ignored in an individual. She further motivated the volunteers to work as active vaccinators for this massive campaign and extend co-operation for making this campaign successful for eradication of Polio in the country. Furthermore, she trained the volunteers for the upcoming Pulse Polio programme.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the volunteers for their active participation in performing various ‘Asanas’ and further informed the students about various precautionary measures that must be followed while performing Yoga. She also motivated the volunteers to actively participate in the Immunization Programme as enthusiastic vaccinators to serve the cause.



»Home Science faculty and students attend Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Startup Conclave 24.01.20

With an aim to enhance practical knowledge about Entrepreneurship and Start-ups, students of B.Sc Home Science- 6th Sem along with faculty member Dr. Shabana Gandhi,  attended CII NR Startup Conclave organized by  Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Northern region, Headquarters on January 24,2020. The conclave focused on deliberating various challenges and potential of setting of Start-ups in UT, Chandigarh. HE Shri VP Singh Badnore, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh was the chief guest and key speaker for the session.  Various deliberations and interactive sessions of the event helped the students to understand about various Government initiatives, International outreach and role of Incubators and accelerators and the Art and Science of fund raising for startups. The startup conclave benefitted the students and motivated them to think out of box.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the students for showcasing interest in Entrepreneurship and start-ups and motivated them to adopt practical strategies to set up their own enterprises and move ahead with appropriate knowledge by tapping multiple funding sources for their start-ups.

 

 



»INTERACTIVE SESSION ON STRESS MANAGEMENT, FOCUS ON FIT INDIA MOVEMENT AND ESSAY COMPETITION ON EK BHARAT SHRESHTH BHARAT IN NSS CAMP 14.01.20

With an aim to promote Fit India Movement and improvise mobility and body balance, the fourth day of seven day special NSS camp began with performing physical training exercises and enthusiastically playing different sports in the college ground.  Volunteers were informed of the various health benefits of different exercises and importance of performing sports in our day to day lives for the betterment of our health.

During the second half of the day, an interactive session was organized on ‘Stress Management’ for the NSS volunteers. Sister Preeti, Brahma Kumari, Rajyoga Bhawan, Sector-15, Chandigarh was invited as the Guest Speaker for the session. She reminded the volunteers of the innate goodness of the individual. She talked about the difference between body and soul and brought into limelight the three important faculties of soul i.e. Mind, Intellect and Impression. She discussed the real meaning of human being as spiritual beings on a human journey and beautifully described soul as consequent being of light. She further emphasized on the embodiments of seven virtues i.e. Knowledge, Purity, Peace, Love, Happiness, Bliss and Power. She also conducted activities for the volunteers to balance their minds and thoughts and encourage positive thoughts and ideas in our lives.Later on, an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ emphasing on culture and traditions, cuisines, administrative and political working, festivities, language of paired state U.T. Dadra and Nagar Haveli influenced by Maharashtrian and Gujarati culture.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, applauded the volunteers for their active participation in different sports and highlighted various health benefits and precautions while performing sports activities. She further motivated the volunteers to adopt various strategies for stress and anger management to lead a life of satisfaction and achieve true happiness.



»THRUST ON JAN SHAKTI ABHIYAN AND CELEBRATION OF LOHRI IN NSS CAMP 13.01.20

On the third day of seven days special NSS camp, volunteers actively participated in the Poster making and Slogan writing competitions on the themes'Save water’ with an aim to sensitize the masses about urgent need to save waterfor future generations.The competition further aimed to focus on five aspects of Jal Shakti Abhiyan i.e. Water Conservation and Rain Water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, water shed development and intensive afforestation.

During the second half of the day, NSS enthusiasts were oriented about the aims and objectives of National Service Scheme as an important extension dimension to the higher education system for community service. Mr. Raj Kumar, Regional Youth Officer, NSS was invited as the Guest Speaker for the session. Volunteers were reminded of the motto of NSS ‘Not MeBut You’ and advised them to work for the community selflessly. He further motivated the volunteers to be active members of various National programmes by developing in themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.

In the concluding part of the day, volunteers enthusiastically participated in Lohri celebrations in the college. Faculty members, non teaching staff and other employees were the part of thecelebrations. Audience was enthralled with the participation of the Students who danced with  with full zeal and enjoyed the festival.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the efforts of the students for beautifully showcasing their ideas during poster making and slogan writing competitions so as to sensitize the society towards the nation-wide campaign of ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’. She advised the volunteers to identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves in problem solving process and contribute their bit in making this place and nation a wonderful place to live in,not only for themselves but for their future generations.She further gave her best wishes on the occasion of Lohri to one and all.



»NSS VOLUNTEERS OF GOVERNMENT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE CELEBRATED NATIONAL YOUTH DAY 12.01.20

Commemorating the birth anniversary of spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda and celebrating 36th National Youth Day , enthusiastic NSS Volunteers visited the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Sector-15, Chandigarh where they were told the significance of National Youth day.

Volunteers were then introduced to the thoughts and ideologies of Swamiji and the importance of inculcating his spiritual as well as inspirational thoughts in our daily lives. The major emphasis was laid on the most famous quotation ' Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached'. Various speakers highlighted the important message by Swami Vivekananda to practice concentration and meditation. They advised the youth to  attain power of concentration and to build a good character by imbibing good moral qualities in oneself.The active NSS volunteers of the college participated by speaking on the life and teachings of Swami Vivekanandaji, reciting poems and singing patriotic song. The participants were felicitated with certificates.

During the second half of the day, a talk was organised to familiarise the volunteers to the culture, traditions, cuisines, festivals, folks etc. of the richest western state Maharashtra under the nation- wide campaign of 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’.The paired state U.T. appointed was Dadra and Nagar Haveli influenced by Maharashtrian and Gujarati culture. Mrs .Pallavi Pinga, Joint secretary of Trinity Art Society who is also successfully running the Dance Academy Kalakunj, Sector-19 D, Chandigarh was the guest speaker for the session. She introduced the volunteers to the language and commonly used words in Maharashtra. She discussed a number of tourist attractions, religious points, festivals, cuisines and common practices of Maharashtra. She also highlighted various historical facts in association with various freedom fighters, social reformers and activists of Maharashtra. She  shared her journey from Maharashtra to Punjab and further advised the volunteers to travel places around India so as to get maximum exposure of various cultures and traditions of varied places.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, appreciated the effervescent team of NSS for their contribution in the celebration of National Youth day.

 



»INAUGURATION OF THE 7 DAY SPECIAL NSS CAMP AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 11.01.20

 

A seven day special NSS camp was inaugurated at Government Home Science College by the Principal of the college Prof. Sudha Katyal. As many as 90 volunteers were enrolled for the camp.  The event began with the lamp lighting ceremony. The volunteers were introduced to the aims and objectives of NSS with an aim to inculcate social welfare in students and to provide service to society without bias and the volunteers were also reminded them of the motto of the National Service Scheme “Not me but You” in sync with the college motto “Knowledge for Service”.

Prof. Katyal emphasized on the significance of various National Programmes like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ and ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. She highlighted the role of youth as powerful change agents of the society and further motivated the volunteers to strive for excellence and encouraged them for maximum participation for the noble cause. Volunteers pledged to work dedicatedly to serve and strengthen freedom and integrity of the nation peacefully and through constitutional means.

With an aim to contribute significantly to the nation-wide campaign of ‘Swcahh Bharat Abhiyan’, students conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus during the second half of the day. Students made an effort to clean all the labs, lecture theatres, auditorium, canteen, hostels and administrative office. Volunteers also took plastic collection drive in the college campus and the vicinity. Students cleaned the campus area and the surroundings. The plastic collected were disposed off safely by the volunteers.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal highly appreciated the active participation of the NSS Volunteers in cleaning the college campus and the efforts made by students in generating awareness regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.



»GHSC SHOWCASES CREATIVITY IN BURAIL JAIL

Inspector General of police (prisons) Mr. Om Hari Singh requested, Principal Government Home Science College Sector-10 Chandigarh to provide expertise and help for the beautification of interiors and exteriors of a Councelling Cell Rupantaran for Drug Addict prisoners of the Burail Jail,Chd. Mrs. Seema Jaitly Assistant Prof. in Art lended her creative skills and helped in changing the entire facade as well as interiors of the cell with the help of 17 inmates of the prison.

The entire cell was turned from a drab looking cell to a very aesthetically done up pleasing place which could help in improving the mental health of the drug addicts. This newly renovated Drug De addiction Cell “Rupantaran Kendra” was inaugurated by Sh. V.P Singh Badnore.All the entire effort from the college was very much appreciated by IG and DGP (prisoners) and even by governor.



»GIRLS BN NCC TRAINING CAMP BEGINS 26.12.19

 The Annual Training Camp-247 organized by the 1 Chandigarh Girls Bn NCC Army commenced at Govt. Home Science College, Sec-10, Chandigarh on Thursday, with an approximate strength of  275 Girls Cadets from ten city Institutes along with a supporting staff of Army personnel and Associate NCC Officers Participating in the 10 days Training event.

 

Addressing the camp Col V K Sheoran,  CO 1 Chandigarh Girls Bn NCC said in consonance to the motto of NCC i.e. Unity & discipline NCC Camps are unique platform for fostering sense of comradeship, team spirit, integrity and discipline amongst the cadets.  The camp aims at developing leadership qualities through organized Personality Development Lectures to inculcate team spirit and enhance individual skills on, weapon training, firing, drill, map reading and physical fitness.   He exhorted the cadets to excel in all fields, enjoy the training with the spirit of learning and cultivate comradeship amongst themselves. 

 

Various competitions such as quiz, sports & cultural activities are planned for tapping the potentials of the cadets during the camp.  Besides the various guest lectures on sensitive issues of Chandigarh as traffic management, Cancer Awareness, Traffic Rules, Art of Living as well as members of NCC Exchange Participants’ Association for conduct of CADET (Comprehensive All-round Development and Employability Trg Program) is being organized during the Ten days of the camp.   

 

 The camp commandant Col V K Sheoran was very thankful to the  Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal Govt. Home Science College,  Sec-10, Chd for providing the college and Hostel campus in assisting the Girls Bn NCC to Organize the camp.  Maj Neelam Associate NCC Officer and Second in Command of the camp was also present on the occasion. 

 

 



»Hands on workshop of Anganwadi Workers concludes at Home Science College 14.12.19

 

Hands on workshop of 2nd Batch of Anganwadi Workers concludes at Home Science College, Chandigarh. The chief guest for the valedictory session was Mrs. Chhavi, an Architect .The emphasis of the workshop was focused on Early Childhood Care & Education wherein Anganwadi workers play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between children and their holistic development. Various technical and demonstrative sessions were organized to aware Anganwadi Workers covering numerous domains of development and significance of early years. Various topics like inculcating creativity and scientific temperament in children, physical and motor development, cognitive development, socio-emotional development, theme based curriculum, child safety and abuse, language development, storytelling and puppetry, music and dance for children, assessment tools and techniques, partnership with parents and community, planning and organisation of an ECCE center, common behavioral problems of pre-school children, common diseases and immunization were  covered. Demonstrations on low cost nutritious recipes were also conducted and enjoyed by Anganwadi Workers. They were also told to bring nutritious recipes which they shared with everyone so as to generate awareness regarding the nutritional needs of children. Principal cum Course Director, appreciated the efforts of resource persons and applauded the enthusiastic involvement of Anganwadi workers throughout the training.Mrs. Mrs.Chhavi was highly delighted by zeal of Anganwadi Workers and praised the efforts of Home Science team for the successful conduct of the program.
