»IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION AND MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DISCUSSED IN OUTREACH PROGRAM BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 13.09.20

Another important topic was dealt today as part of the ongoing celebrations of Poshan Maah by Government Home Science College. The presenter was a MSc final year student(Mrinalini Arora).

The session was about issues faced by adolescent girls during their periods and how they can deal with those issue with confidence and dignity while maintaining good and proper menstrual hygiene in their day to day lives. The outreach program received a great response by the target audience(adolescent girls 13 years and above), around 85-90 people joined the online session and participated actively during the ongoing interaction.

The session comprised of school going girls from Good Shepherd School, Sri Ganganagar.

»DEMO OF POSHAN THALI IN OUTREACH PROGRAM AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 12.09.20

In the continuing series of outreach awareness generation program planned for the month of September, students of Home Science College explained ways in which  one can create a good healthy and nutritious plate at their home using locally available food products and putting emphasis on its importance too in their daily life. 

The demonstration also included the right proportion of nutrients one has to consume and stated how one can create their nutrition thali at home theoretically and with a help of video.

The session included a demonstration video of preparation of healthy lunch thali which summarised the whole idea of this outreach programme. The target group was adolescents girls and women from Panchkula (Haryana) and Chandigarh. Around 50 participants joined today's session.

»DAY 6 OF ONLINE OUTREACH PROGRAM BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 11.09.20

As a part of on going celebrations of Poshan Maah at Home Science College an outreach awareness program on prevention of malnutrition in infants was organised. 

Today’s  discussion included the importance of Poshan Maah to irradicate malnutrition among the population. The focus of the talk was about the Type and amount of complementary feeding that is to be given to infants for their proper growth and development so that the infant doesn’t fall into the category of a malnourished child. 

The session included  ways in which simple home and local food can be made nutrient rich to fullfill infant’s demand and the hygiene condition which is to be maintained to save the infant from diarrhoea. 

The target group for the talk was pregnant and lactating women from Dehradun , Uttarakhand.

Principal of the college Prof Sudha Katyal emphasized upon the need for proper nutrition during the first 1000 days of our lives to help eradicate malnutrition.



»OUTREACH PROGRAM ON MALNUTRITION IN CHILDREN BY HOME SCIENCE STUDENTS 10.09.20

The M.Sc.students of the college conducted an online awareness generation program on malnutrition in children (prevention and detention) to celebrate the spirit of Poshan Maah. 

They discussed about what is malnutrition, types, signs and symptoms of malnutrition, anemia in children and prevention of anemia in children.

Nutritional reqirements for pre school children age(3-6yr) were also discussed, with special focus on how to encourage healthy eating habits at home. 

Modifications in simple recipes like

Aloo parantha/

Normal chapati to colorful chapatis with  mixing of spinach puree, carrot puree, beetroot puree and besan with wholewheat flour,

Ragi idli and veg cutlets was also suggested. 

Introduction of new  recipes  like

Vegetable wraps

Ragi banana pancakes

Papaya halwa. 

Mix veg soup was advocated. 

 The audience consisted of mothers  from convent of  Jesus and Mary School, teachers from Bijaj Public School ,Meerut and teachers from Govt. primary School Sambhalkha

»COLLEGE ORGANISES ONLINE AWARENESS SESSION ON DRUG ABUSE AND YOUTH DURING PANDEMIC 09.09.20

An Online awareness session on Drug Abuse and Youth during pandemic was organised by the college. The speaker, Dr Apneet Brar , a homeopathic practitioner and an alumni of the college talked about the widespread use and easy availability of drugs especially in Punjab and their manifold usage during the Pandemic as a means to ease stress and anxiety. She stressed on the importance of Online counselling sessions in these times and how CBT, acceptance therapies and how group counselling can be of help to the youth to get rid of drug usage. She explained the dire need of Parental therapies and family based therapies that can play a vital role in keeping the youth in check today. She quoted figures by AIIMS telling that the calls on online helpline numbers for counselling had gone up to 200 % in the past few months and there were increasing numbers with each passing day. She related how drugs were seen as a safe passage to deal with the anxieties, insecurities and financial losses faced by the people in these times. She stressed on how family support can be of great help to everyone in these times and that parents should make that extra effort to spend time with children. It is necessary in these times that we be there for each other and make best use of this family time and be happy always. The session got an overwhelming response and was thoroughly enjoyed by the viewers. Queries of the viewers were also addressed. She thanked the Principal, Prof. Sudha Katyal and the department of HDFR for having given her the opportunity to share her views and spread awareness amongst the youth.



»LIVE SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP ON IMMUNITY BOOSTING BEVERAGES AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 09.09.20

A live skill building workshop was organised in collaboration with Mrs. Natasha Nanda #thepalatestorybynatashananda

The workshop included demonstration of Immunity building beverages with ingredients available in your home kitchens. Natasha prepared a green smoothie using spinach, kale and a mixture of seeds and nuts making it a power packed meal on the go. A detox juice was also demonstrated rich in vitamin C and all micronutrients.

This workshop was a part of the ongoing celebrations of Poshan Maah at Government Home Science College.

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the resource person and encouraged everyone to turn to their kitchens instead of a pharmacy during the time of this pandemic.



»Inauguration of Immunity Boosting Kitchen Garden at Home Science College 07.09.20

In an initiative to promote healthy eating at home, Government Home Science College inaugurated and planted a kitchen garden on the campus today ias a part of celebrations of Poshan Maah under the Government's initiative. 

The plantation was conducted by Principal Prof Sudha Katyal and other faculty members. Several immunity boosting herbs were planted which included lemon grass, tulsi, ashwagandha, aloe Vera, turmeric, mint, giloy, garlic, ginger and basil. 

The whole month has been dedicated to nutrition related activities and awareness generation on healthy eating 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal appreciated the initiatives of the department and encouraged everyone to plant a kitchen garden to ensure immunity at every house hold.

»Poshan Maah Celebrations Kickstarted at Home Science College 05.09.20

The month of September is dedicated to celebrating and observing Poshan Maah wherein the message of healthy eating and living is imparted to one and all as per directives of the Government in sync with the National Nutrition Mission. 

Home Science College Kickstarted the celebrations today with an outreach programme conducted by Sheenu, MSc student. The target group were school children of classes 9 and 10. An online medium was used  to spread awareness about importance of healthy eating and balanced diet to improve immunity. 

The participants also took a pledge to help spread the message of eating healthy as well as to plant a kitchen garden with immunity boosting herbs. 

Principal Prof Sudha Katyal congratulated the students and encouraged everyone to conduct such outreach and awareness activities to ensure the message of healthy eating for one and all

Home Science Students Participated in Various National Level Online Competitions Organized by various colleges and bring laurels to the college by winning various prizes. Naina of B.sc. fashion designing 2nd sem won 3rd prize in national level inter-college online mehendi competition organized by MCM DAV COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, chd .Janvi Sharma of B.Sc. H.Sc. 6th Sem Dietetics. 1st Prize in Slogan Writing Competition  followed by Larfgeet Kaur of B.Sc. H.Sc. 4th Sem winning 2nd Prize and Rashmita Subba of B.Sc H.Sc. 6th Sem bagged 3rd prize in national level slogan writing, poetry writing and photography  competitions by Lady Irwin College, Of  Delhi University.  Preesha Satija (B.Sc. »BUDDING ENTREPRENEURS OF HOME SCIENCE WINS NATIONAL LEVEL BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION BY SIDBI 17.08.20

The budding entrepreneurs of Government Home Science College bring another moment of pride for the college by winning the National Business Idea Competition sponsored by SIDBI. In sync with the mission of ‘Aatm Nirbhar Bharat’, and as an endeavor to motivate the students to hone their skills by understanding the nitty gritty of startup ideas in a more detailed and structured manner, potential entrepreneurs of the college enthusiastically participated in the National level Business Plan competition organized under Swavalamban Idea Lab by Small Industrial Development Bank of India (SIDBI). The students have submitted their detailed project plan for the competition. 

More than 25 entries were received at all India level, the young entrepreneur, Anupreet Kaur Sobti, of the college has been selected amongst few and  has been awarded cash prize vouchers of Rs. 5000 and Rs. 10,000 each. These vouchers will be used for meeting the cost of acquiring skill/upskilling through training under any skilling centre of Ministry of Skill Development. These vouchers will also help to meet the cost of preparation of detailed project report relevant to the respective Business Plan.  

This budding entrepreneur and winner of the competition  is currently running her own startup ‘Dietaura’ to enhance nutrition education amongst the masses. Her Business Idea reflected an effort to fill the gap of demands of the society by completing their nutritional demands through innovation in food products. Another budding entrepreneur, Jasmine, a student of B.Sc. 3rd year has been awarded with the participation certificate.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, congratulated the students for their achievement. She  motivated the students to be job creators rather than job seekers. She further appreciated them for their hardwork and never dying spirit as during pandemic times when jobs are scarce, the students are coming up with innovative ideas and moving towards  self- employement.

 

 



»INTER-COLLEGE DIGITAL COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION ON ‘AATMA NIRBHAR BHARAT’ ON 74TH INDEPENDENCE DAY (15. 08. 2020)

The NSS wing of Government Home Science College organized a National level Inter-College Digital Collage Making Competition On ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ On 74th Independence Day. As many as 38 entries were received.Sheenu garg received Ist prize followed by Katyani Aggarwal  from Bansthali University Rajasthan bagged 2nd prize and Aastha jain of Government College Of Management & Business Administration Chd, and consolation prize was won by Shikha of the same college.



»TRICOLOUR UNFURLED AND TREE PLANTATION DONE TO CELEBRATE 15.08.20

74TH INDEPENDENCE DAY 

Keeping in mind the safety measures and social distancing norms, the staff of the college celebrated the 74th Independance day. The pandemic   could not dampen the spirits as online competitions of Patriotic dance and singing were held whose results are to be announced on Monday due to an overwhelming response recieved from all over the country. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal appreciated the efforts of our frontline warriors and paramedic staff during these times but specifically mentioned the vital contribution of Class 4 workers of the college and everywhere including chowkodars, aayas, malis and drivers without whom it would have been very difficult to keep the things going in these testing times. She saluted the spirit of work and dedication of these workers. The principal encouraged everyone to upskill themselves and work towards the goal of being Atma Nirbhar as advocated by our Hon’ Prine Minister Shri Narendra Modi. She lauded the efforts of the students of the college who are working towards self employment and encouraged the faculty  to help the students in becoming Atamnirbhar. Tree plantation was also carried out to contribute to the environment as well as to symbolise growth and prosperity of the nation even in the pandemic .  

 



»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE ORGANIZED NATIONAL LEVEL FOLK SONG AND FOLK DANCE COMPETITION (August 08,2020)

Lokrang, a national level competition of Folk Dance and Folk Song was organized in Govt Home Science college, Chd.  Dr Hemraj Chandel, Assistant professor, RGM Govt degree college, Himachal Pradesh was the judge of the Folk Song competition whereas Dr Smruti Veghella, Assistant professor, the M.S. University of Baroda was the judge of the Folk Dance competition. As many as 32 registrations were received from a number of colleges.

 

For folk song competition, Pooja Rani, fromKurukshetra University stood first; Selja, Government P.G. College for Women bagged the second prize whereas Jaspreet Kaur, PGGCG-11,Chd, won the third prize. In folk dance competition, Neha Mehra, Government College for girls, Ludhiana bagged first prize,  Anjali Verma, Banasthali Vidyapath, Rajasthan won the second prize and Pooja, Government P.G. College for women, Karnal bagged the third prize.

The department of  Foods and Nutrition of Government Home Science College, Chd, organized National level E-Poster  Competition On Encouraging And Supporting Breastfeeding  for Celebration of breastfeeding week, Aug 1-7, 2020 .As many as 51 registrations were received from a number of colleges.

 



»ONLINE AWARENESS GENERATION ON KITCHEN GARDEN HERBS AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 08.09.20

As a part of the ongoing celebration of Poshan Maah, the MSc students of Department of Foods and Nutrition are conduction outreach awareness programs online for different target groups.

 

The theme for today's program was use of kitchen garden herbs in our daily lives in sync with the government's initiative ' Poshan ke liye paudha'

 

Shriya, a student of MSc Foods and Nutrition demonstrated the use of aloe Vera and gave recipe ideas for the same. She also emphasized on the need to develop a kitchen garden and grow immunity boosting herbs.

 

The outreach program was attended by more than 50 participants. They comprised of one of the vulnerable groups i. e. adolescent girls.

 

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal urged everyone to spread the message of healthy eating for better immunity through the online medium.

»HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE CELEBRATED LIVE VALEDICTORY DAY OF NATIONAL BREAST FEEDING WEEK 08.08.20

Government Home Science College in collaboration with Fortis hospital, Mohali observed NATIONAL BREASTFEEDING WEEK as part of their extension and outreach activities on the Theme:  “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet." In an endeavour of generating awareness regarding breastfeeding even during this difficult times of pandemic, a number of National level competitions were organised including e-posters making, video making on home based weaning food recipe and jingle making competition.

More than 100 beneficiaries from Khuda Ali Sher formed the target audience. Dr Rabia, Senior Lactation Consultant, Fortis Hospital, Mohali addressed the audience and demonstrated the right technique to breastfeed. She also highlighted various myths related to Breastfeeding and clarified facts about the same.

A glimpse of e-posters was presented along with the demonstration session on healthy and nutritious weaning food recipe by Nishtha, a student of MSc Food and Nutrition 2nd yr. A live lecture was also delivered by Shivani Yadav, MSc Food and Nutrition, making efforts to beat myths related to food and nutrition. An e-skit was also exhibited by the students. 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, congratulated the students for spreading an important message and creating awareness amongst the masses about the importance of breastfeeding and keeping in sync with the goals of the government.

 

 

 



»HOME SCIENCE STUDENT WINS NATIONAL COMPETITION BY CADBURY CELEBRATIONS 04.08.20

Akanksha Rakheja, a student of B.Sc Home Science 3rd year has  been declared as the winner of National level competition# Sibling Superstar organised by the the Cadbury India as a part of Rakhi celebrations. She performed household chores while performing ‘Hulla-hoop’. 

The video was created and posted by her sister on instagram and the result was declared on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Akanksha won the bumper prize and her video was broadcasted  on all leading TV  channels including Star plus, Star gold, Star sports etc.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, congratulated Akanksha on her achievement and motivated her to take her talent to a new level for recognition at greater heights.

The department of Clothing and Textile of Government Home Science College, Chd organized an online national level competition ofcreation of innovative jewellery.The competition received total 208 entries.

»FOUR-DAY ONLINE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY GOVERNMENT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE CONCLUDED ON A STYLISH NOTE 02.08.20

The ongoing Four-day Online Entrepreneurial Skill Development Workshop (July 29-August 01, 2020), culminated with the last session on “Vibrant Fashion Boutique” which was organized in collaboration with Vandana and Seema, the owners of Aakarshan Boutique. Right from conceiving the idea of establishing a boutique to its actual realization, the entire journey has been a learning experience for them. Sharing their experiences as entrepreneurs, they extensively talked about innovative and useful strategies that can be used to overcome the initial hiccups faced by budding entrepreneurs. Turning challenges into opportunities, they have come a long way and earned a reputation for themselves.

Breaking the prevalent narratives of fashion, which more or less centered around the ‘ideal’ body type, both Vandana and Seema emphasized on loving and accepting our bodies. Displaying an array of fabric from block print, Batik, Ajaraic to Ikat, they presented their exclusive collection along with their properties to suit the requirement of different body types. They enthusiastically answered the queries of the participants who were very eager to know about the different ways of styling clothes to look elegant and stylish. The session ended with the innovative and out of the box suggestions given by the entrepreneurs.

The Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the faculty members, participants as well as various speakers of the sessions for their seamless performance and organization. Admiring the overwhelming response of the participants, she promised similar events in the near future as well. 

 



»LIVE WORKSHOP WITH BAKER BROTHERS ORGANIZED BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 31.07.20

During the unprecedented crisis of COVID-19, Government Home College, Chandigarh has already ventured into manifold initiatives to rejuvenate the sagging spirits of the masses at large. Under the able and dynamic leadership of Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal, college is marching towards the path of excellence and is consistently working for the betterment of the society. 

Aligning with the clarion call of Atmanirbhar Bharat from the Government of India, a Four-day Online Entrepreneurial Skill Development Workshop (July 29-August 01, 2020) has been organized in collaboration with the various successful entrepreneurs who have achieved glorious heights in their respective fields. The rationale behind the workshop is to instil the spirit of learning, creativity and innovation among the various stakeholders.  
Treading along the similar lines, the second and third day of the live entrepreneurial workshop had interesting sessions on “Professional Baking” by Baker Brothers i.e. Chefs Amit and Sumit Jhangra. Bringing the exquisite French, Indian and Japanese delicacies to the platter, the chefs artistically presented the ways and means to make exclusive culinary delicacies within the limited available resources. Mr. Amit specifically exhibited the techniques and ingredients utilized for the process of making Milli Feuille as well as the Puff pastry. On the other hand, Mr. Sumit creatively presented Sushi along with his innovative recipe of Choco Choorma.  Known for their sheer professionalism and innovative baking techniques, the duo demonstrated innovative skills that can easily be replicated and performed by everyone.

With the active participation of people from the different strata of society, the workshop was a successful endeavour. The queries of the participants were answered to their satisfaction.  Further, the principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal encouraged and motivated the participants to come out of their cocoon and learn from the experiences of the already established entrepreneurs.

 

 

 



»Government Home Science College secured Second position in the Online Inter-College Digital Essay Writing Competition 31.07.20

Government Home Science College is consistently making strenuous efforts to keep the spirit of learning and creativity alive among the students even during COVID-19 pandemic. Various online academic and cultural events are organized to ensure the holistic development of the students. With the constant motivation and guidance from their mentors, students not only overcome their moments of stalemate but also showcase their creative potential at various academic platforms.  The motto is to sharpen the unbridled imagination and artistic capabilities of the students. The overwhelming participation of the students in the various intra-college, as well as inter-college competitions, stands as a witness to the vision and mission of the college.

Continuing with the similar spirit, yet another feat is achieved by Ms. Preesha Satija (B.Sc. Home Science, First year) who bagged the second position in the Inter-College Digital Essay Writing Competition organized by the Shri Guru Gobind Singh College in collaboration with the Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

»LIVE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE, CHANDIGARH 29.07.20

Building a path towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, Government Home Science College organized an Online Entrepreneurial Skill development Workshop on “Skilled Art with Resin”. The one day live skill building workshop was organized in collaboration with Ms. Monica Saini, a successful entrepreneur herself who holds numerous art classes using different mediums.

She demonstrated making of beautiful resin coasters with alcohol ink, pearl pigments, glitter and colour powders along with the safety precautions to be used while using the resin and the heat gun. She was very happy to answer the numerous queries by the enthusiastic live participants during the demonstration. Not only that, she appraised the participants of the lesser expensive options of materials required for making resin art that are available in the market as well as online. The workshop received a wonderful response and was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all.

Principal of the college, Prof Sudha Katyal encouraged the students to build upon skills during the pandemic time to utilize the time judiciously as well as  to become Atmanirbhar.

It caters to the present day requirements of education in order to meet the rapidly changing demands of family life, provides life skill education in the multiple roles that woman has to play in home as well as professional life. A career in Home Science is best suited for modern women with keen aesthetic sensibilities in contemporary arts & modern housekeeping among others. It is an important mélange of science and art within a changing society by taking the help of scientific knowledge and methods. Home Science teaches you the art of using things so that a harmonious whole is achieved and an overall pleasant effect is created. At the same time, it gives you all the scientific knowledge of the procedures involved in making a home aesthetic.

 

In today”s fast paced life, where we are all dealing with stress and anxiety, home science as a discipline, endows you with basic life skill education to help you sustain and strike a balance between professional and personal lives.   The role of a homemaker has larger implications as she nurtures the family and indirectly the society. Home Science education is designed and structured around the urban home makers, their family and community. Home science as a field of study is application and skill oriented which prepares one for many professions.

 

One can specialize in any of the five streams of home science - Food and Nutrition, Interior Design and Resource Management, Human Development and Family Relations, Fabric and Apparel Science, Extension Education and Entrepreneurial Development or have a general understanding of all streams. The different areas of specialization also concentrate on providing suitable training to the students for various job opportunities. Today we are fighting for our basic survival through the 3 main necessities, roti, kapda and makaan. Home science gives you an insight into all the 3 necessities as well as beyond it. Thus, Home Science empowers woman at personal, professional, social, entrepreneurial and economic fronts.

The department of Human development and family relations prepares students for careers in public and private human service agencies. Government Home Science College, Chd organized an online national level competition ofcreation of utility bag with eco-friendly material.The competition received a total of 151 entries.KalavadiyaGopi from Polytechnic in Home Science – Amreli won the first prize; DaljitKaur from Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College Dinanagar and ShubhamJasrotia from Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College Dinanagar bagged the second prize while JyotiMehra from Shanti devi Arya mahila College,Dinanagar and Sunaina Nigam from Government Home Science College, Chd won the third prize.

Students seeking admission to the various undergraduate courses of Home Science College can start applying from July 27, 2020.The aspirants interested in taking admissions in this pioneer college can enroll under the category of professional colleges on the website www.dhe.chd.gov.in  or on the college website www.homescience10.ac.in   The online admission is for undergraduate courses like B.Sc home science and B.Sc fashion designing. However the college also offers various Diploma and Postgraduate courses like M.Sc( Home Science) in Clothing and Textiles,  Foods and Nutrition and  Human Development and Family Relations. The college also boosts of offering the PhD in home science in its various streams. 

Home Science College is one of the pioneer professional institutes in North India with approved PhD research centre providing high placements and quality education to its students. »LIVE SESSION ON GROW THROUGH WHAT YOU GO THROUGH: MENTAL WELLBEING SESSION DURING COVID-19 (25.07.20)

Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh organized Live Session On Grow Through What You Go Through: Mental Wellbeing Session During Covid-19.

The workshop was successfully conducted by Ms. Bhavna Garg, Alumna of our college, Motivational Speaker, Life Coach and Human Development Expert. The session was live on facebook and many viewers participated in the session actively. 

Ms. Bhavna Garg emphasized on many secrets of living life happily in the time of pandemic. She also motivated students for their future endeavors. She shared various useful tips for a happy life and how to rejoice small pleasures in life.

Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal, conceived the idea of conducting this session on Happy Brain, Happy Life. She invigorated the students regarding mental balance and also applauded the efforts of the speaker for illuminating viewers on Mental Wellbeing.

 



»Online Peer Learning and Skill Building Workshop by Department of Foods and Nutrition 25.07.20

Empowering students to build and hone their skills during this time of pandemic series, an Online Skill building workshop was organized on ‘Art of making Home-made chocolates and Donuts’.

The workshop was successfully conducted by Anupreet Kaur Sobti, a student of B.Sc. Dietetics final year. She talked about importance of skill building and highlighted the role of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’, an initiative by Indian government to make India Self Reliant.  She also shared her experience in setting up her own startups ‘Fantasia de chocolates’ and ‘Dietaura™’. She further demonstrated the different cooking methods of making homemade donuts and adding glaze to it. She also demonstrated chocolate making and different flavours that can be added to it. She further encouraged the viewers to add innovation to their delicacies and enjoy them during the upcoming festivities.

»ONLINE SKILL BUILDING AND ENTREPRENEURIAL ENHANCEMENT WORKSHOP AT HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 24.07.20

In sync with the national mission of ‘Aatma Nirbhar Bharat’ , Government Home Science College in collaboration with Mommy Baby Kitchen organized a 2-days live  Skill building and entrepreneurial workshop on ‘Art of making Waffle and Ice cream’. 

The workshop was sponsored and conducted by Muskan Agarwal, Founder of Mommy Baby Kitchen. During the First day of the workshop, she gave a hands-on live demonstration of making breakfast waffles. She also shared a few tips with the viewers on 

how to build their own startups and further shared her experience of managing her passion for baking along with her studies. She further demonstrated the different techniques of making vegetable waffles using waffle makers. On the next day of her workshop, she showed various ways of making a variety of flavoured ice creams  like raspberry ice cream, chocolate icecream, Faluda ice cream and Vanilla ice cream.  

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal, motivated the viewers to bring perfection in turning one's passion to a successful start-up. The workshop was viewed by  more than 4K viewers and  received 120 comments on Facebook page of the college

»International Short Film Making Competition organized in Home Science College (20. 07. 2020)

International Short Film Making Competition was organized in the college on Train Your Mind to B+ During COVID-19. As many as 109 entries were received from the number of different colleges at International Level. Shagun Chowdhary of  MCM DAV College Chd, bagged 1st Prize in this competition, Divyapreet of GHSC-10  got 2nd Prize, Ashwinder Kaur of  RR BAWA DAV College bagged 3rd Prize  and Roop Sabharwal, Ph.D Student of CSSP,ALLIANT International University Emerey Ville,C.A. U.S.A. bagged 1st Consolation Prize, Amita of GHSC-10 CHD, recieved 2nd Consolation Prize in this competition. Praise Worth Entries were: Parima Jaswal of  MCM DAV College, Chd, Jasleen of MIIT, Canada  and FD Students of FDDI Rohtak.

National level Online Competition- Making Landscape Accessory and Lighting Fixture was organized in Home Science College, Chd. As many as 98 registrations were received from a number of colleges. Sannati of B.Sc.(H.Sc)  Ist year of Government Home Science College,Chd,  won Ist prize and Kajal Dhiman of the same college got 2nd prize. Aditi Thakur of Mohan Lala Hargovind College of Home Science and Science for women won 3rd prize and Vedika Sehgal of Government Home Science College, Chd got consolation prize.

Online national level competition of designing cushion cover with old fabric and doodle art was organized to enhance the creativity and skills among the students.The competition received 214 entries.Harshita Chawla from Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar bagged the first prize; Aastha Agrawal from Banasthali Institute of Design, Banasthali Vidyapith and Muskan Sharma from Kanya MahaVidhalaya, Jalandhar won the second prize; Shubham from Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College, Dinanagar bagged the third prize.

National level Cookery competition on the theme ‘Lets do Miracle with millet snacks for Swastha Bharat ' was organized in Govt Home Science College, Chandigarh.As many as 60 registrations were received from a number of colleges. Manveen Dhillon of Guru Nanak College, Santpura, Yamuna nagar, Haryana bagged first prize by preparing  recipe Chilli Garlic Noodles, Chief Ingredient Ragi , Shivani Yadav of Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate College, Gorakhpur, Uttar pradesh won second prize by preparing  recipe Finger Millet Tacos - Chief  Ingredient Finger Millet ,Amandeep Kaur of Post Graduate Govt. College of Girls, Sector 42, Chdwas given third prize by preparing recipe 3 layered millet cake-chief ingredients were  Jowar, Bajra, Ragi . Himani Kukreja of Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh  received first Consolation prize by preparing  recipe Beetroot Millet Dhokla-Chief Ingredient: Millet with beetroot

 



»LIVE SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOP BY HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE 28.06.20

Not letting learning suffer during the corona times, Home Science College has successfully been keeping up with its motto 'Service Before Self' and organised live workshops and Youtube videos to keep learning alive.

A one day live skill building workshop 'Let's bake and decorate' was organised in collaboration with Natasha Nanda #thepalatestory

Natasha an autodidactic home chef, demonstrated simple baking techniques and tips for easy and successful baking at home. She also showed easy plating techniques for regular home food to help make it look exotic and of restraunt quality.

The workshop got an overwhelming response. As many as 700 participants registered for the workshop , approximately 1000 viewers attended it live on Facebook and received 176 comments.

Apart from being a baking workshop, it proved to be an inspiration for all the participants as chef Natasha is lawyer by profession but she exploited her passion for baking during lockdown period, thereby, conveying  a message  of how one can use one's skills and talent to flourish during the pandemic.

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal applauded the efforts of the faculty and encouraged the viewers to learn from Natasha and not to let the lockdown dampen their spirits to work and learn.

 



»Home Science College Concludes One Week Online Yoga Session 25.06.20

In the concluding  day  of Live Yoga Session at Home Science College, faculty and students participated with great zeal. The session was conducted on google meet app as well as YouTube app. The session highlighted benefits of various yogic asanas along with the precautionary measures to be taken while performing each asana. Vedika , a student of B.Sc Home Science 4th Semester  demonstrated various ananas like Pranayam including Brahmari, Anulom Vilom  and Kapalbhati and many more. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college congratulated and applauded the efforts of the organising committee and all the participants for their active participation. She further highlighted that though it was a good initiative by the college yet it requires a conscious continuity on the part of each one of us so as to stay physically and mentally healthy.
